Plan to put a 2.5 inch lift kit on the TJ, can I use the stock control arms or do i need different ones?

My 2.5” Rancho suspension came with adjustable lowers.

I added adjustable uppers and I can tell you it was a bitch to even get those lined up. Had to use a ratchet strap and get creative. Take that Fwiw

Don’t go with rough country. They aren’t lying. It’s a rough ride.

Mine had 33’s and a 2.5” lift. Stock control arms with about an inch of TC drop. Loosen the control arm hardware, do your work, then retorque with the Jeep on the ground. IIRC not doing this shreds the bushings.

What is TC drop?

Transfer case drop. At around 2.5" of suspension lift, the driveshaft angles get off enough that you get vibrations in the seat and accelerated u-joint wear.

You can do a slip yoke eliminator ($ and involved) or drop the skidplate, using washers or pieces of pipe to get the driveline angles back into spec (less $ and less involved, but many think it's not the right way to do it)

You’ve got good advice. Watching this forum and my expertience with multiple TJs, it depends.

2” is probably limit on stock, maybe look at 2” only.
Above, it probably depends, lifting can cause vibrations from the Transfer case output to driveshaft to axle, angel too steep.

You can put a cheap TC drop, 6 thick washers basically, under the skid that holds up the TC, and you’ll change the angle back down enough to stop vibes.

You go high, it’s a whole lot of stuff. Read Chris’ thread on “Somyou want 35’s, 4” lift” and you’ll see all the things you should do to lift a TJ, you’re just on the beginning end ha
