Distributor Replacement

I’ve been replacing multiple components as you all know partly to resolve issues and partly just to have new and known age sensors/parts on my rig. A start from scratch if you will.

I’d like to replace the distributor and pickup coil. Anyone got a recommendation on a good one ? OEM is hard to come by and expensive. I’m not opposed to performance or good aftermarket.

Have you checked to see what brands Rock Auto has? Generally they have several options and some of them will usually be suitable replacements.

I have not. I was going to see the general consensus before beginning the journey

I've only had to replace one. I used a Duralast Gold, which everybody here is going to crap all over but it's been 2 years and its still going strong. At the time I expected to find tons of options in the after market space (I had a 66 Ford Mustang prior to being in the Jeep world and there are TONS of high dollar options), but I found nothing.

For future reference, you can save yourself the effort of posting here asking about parts recommendations. The answer is always "Mopar." Now I would advise you to just ask questions of the form "hey, I know I should get Mopar here, but what are some other options if I can't find the Mopar?" At which point several people will still tell you to get the Mopar, but at least you tried.

I did talk to an old school distributor dude recently about replacing the bushing in my OEM distributor, and he said that Cardone is plenty good, there's not enough moving parts for them to screw it up is basically what he told me. I had forgotten about that till you mentioned it there.

I tried to cover it with “OEM is hard to come by” lmao, but yessir, I’ve detected a pattern here of mopar is god and god is mopar. . I’m so over this fuel trim shit it ain’t funny. I’m about to pull the trigger on a new distributor assembly with new cap, rotor, CPS and all that good stuff and a new ECU. At that point nothing electronic on this bitch will be original or used. It’ll all be new. If it still shows lean fuel trims I’ll be reenacting a scene from Ghost Rider. In which I mean I’ll be setting it on fire and driving it into the nearest standing structure.

Option 2 will be rip the MPI off, throw on an old school vacuum distributor and a small Edelbrock carb with a fuel regulator and call it a day.
