I am going to start pulling my small vintage travel trailer with my 2001 Tj. Are there any suggestions or recommendations of what braking system I should upgrade to? The trailer does not have brakes and I am sure the stock TJ brakes leave a lot to be desired.

What is the approximate weight of the trailer and as Chris asked above, what size tires are you running? Whatever your answers are, one of Black Magic's brake products will be my recommendation.

I am not sure of the weight but it is a single axle any be 12 to 14 foot.
Well, your tires are roughly equivalent to 32's but that trailer description isn't enough to know even an approximation of its weight. The above advice to Google its model # is my recommendation too.

If it's light, you may get away with Black Magic's brake pad and rotor kit. If it's heavier or you just aren't willing to take chances since your trailer doesn't have brakes, I'd go with Black Magic's superb dual-piston Big Brake Kit which has been on both of my TJs. www.blackmagicbrakes.com

Could you do that for me please. 1965 DeVille trailer.
Did you just ask if someone could google something for you? Hahaha! Well all I could find is it’s under 2000lbs. Would need more info I think to find a solid answer...

Is there a reason why you cannot upgrade the axle on the trailer to one with electric brakes?

I would start with trailer brakes for any trailer over 1500 lbs., which includes your 1965 Deville. You just have to decide whether your definition of "vintage" means unaltered or whether there is latitude for safety improvements.

I second the idea of retrofitting brakes onto the trailer. While a BMB upgrade would certainly be worthwhile, the trailer will squat the rear of the Jeep somewhat and unload the front axle a little, reducing available braking traction...while towing, this could offset at least some of any advantage gained with a Jeep brake upgrade.
