Black Magic Brakes Break-in

Black Magic Brakes are going in shorty. Really looking forward to this. I didn't have to change pads or rotors when I purchased the TJ a bunch of years ago. Overhauled everything else in the brake system but I have no idea how old the wear items were.

I need a few miles of stop-n-go surface roads before I can get to a stretch long enough to safely do the break-in procedure. Will it present any issue with the new brakes & calipers if I drive on them for 5-8 miles before the break-in is completed?

You can do the break-in in the length of 1 long city block. Drive, brake, drive, brake and repeat until they are hot, then drive, drive, drive until the cool down. Don't overthink it. You can go back and forth in one long block and do all of this.

Sorry to hijack

@mrblaine, what would cause rear pads (not BMB) to wear more on one end of one and the opposite end of the other. They both look like wedges.
Crooked caliper, bent axle/disc?

Guide pins need lube or replaced.

As blaine said, a city block will do. I did mine at night and just kept turning around when needed.

They're great brakes--I can lock up my 35s with the pads and rotors.

I assume you're referring to the sleeves and/or lubing the outside of the sleeves (inside the boots).

Yes, sorry about that. Messing with other calipers today and forgot you might have guide sleeves and bolts. Need to lube up the outside of the sleeves inside the boots and make sure they move easily back and forth with moderate finger pressure.

Generally yes. I've got lots of boots if you need some, no sleeves.
