I just came from a 5 day trip running around the Eastern Mojave Desert. On day 4 I was running down a power line road 15 mile from camp at approx 60mph. I went over a 1’ drop and bottomed out the rear suspension but did not strike anything underneath. I had 30 miles on my full gas tank. Immediately after my check engine light and fuel light illuminated along with the gas gauge dripping to empty. The motor ran fine and I made it back to camp. No visible leak or gas smell. I put in 3 gal of gas and it topped off. I checked out all the relevant fuses and relays , all checked out fine.
Before I go through the pain of dropping the tank is there anything else I should check? I drove it home 200 miles and other than running out of gas at 192 miles. I had spare gas and put in a gallon of gas to get me home. At least my tank is not full like the last time I dropped it in Fed to replace the fuel pump with a Bosch unit.
I suspect that I broke the float or sending unit. I assume the electrical connection on the tank is OK because the fuel pump still works.
