My Dana 35 carrier bearing took out my carrier which then ground down the thick side of a bearing cap. Since they are matched to the axel, can I just replace the caps? If so what adjustments do I need to make . Thanks

Bearing caps are specific to the housing. It would probably be cheaper to find a same ratio used axle for replacement. The issue with that is, you'll likely be in the same boat eventually as it continues to wear out.

The good news is, the sides of the bearing caps aren't used for retaining the bearings. You can most likely re-use what you have there. I wouldn't hesitate as long as the damage isn't more than what is shown. Be sure to orient the caps on the correct side and orientation. There will most likely be a letter stamped onto both the housing and cap for each side. One will be upright and the other will be sideways. Match them up and you're good to go.

That works as long as your gear guy isn't retarded.
