Ball joint issue?

Yes that would be a vacuum leak... intake manifold is correct...that sounds like the line running back to the HVAC system and vacuum reservoir.

Betcha it idles better and you've got more than just defrost with your HVAC.

The factory service manuals available in the resources section are downloadable for free and would have a complete vacuum diagram if you wanted to check further.

I was able to find the diagrams which were super helpful, but I was having trouble figuring out the purpose of each hose/connection to try and problem solve if it was part of my problem. Switching back and forth between this forum and Google to learn my way around it all was about to drive me crazy.

Vacuum basically goes to HVAC/reservoir. Brake booster. EVAP. And to the valve cover. Off the top of my head.

Also consider all hoses and rubber bits are 25 years old and probably junk.

Consider replacing PCV grommets on the valve cover...hoses... unrelated things like the crank pulley have a rubber center. Vent hoses off the differentials and transfer case.

I feel like I’m learning a whole new language here…which is wild because I didn’t start out completely auto-terminology ignorant. My father wouldn’t let me get my license until I could do all the basics (change oil, flat tires, check fluids etc.), but this jeep is proof I still have no idea about anything. 😂 headed back to Google now to try and translate what you just said. 😂. I’ll figure it out. Thank you again!

My suggestion, if you don't have much mechanical knowledge about vehicles (especially Jeeps), join a local jeep club and ask around. There are numerous clubs with facebook accounts that would be willing to offer mechanical advice or steer (pun intended) you to a reputable shop.

Google will more than likely lead you down a stray path of incorrect resolution.
