Anything else I should replace while the oil pan is off?

I’m going to be replacing my rear main seal this month. Should I replace anything like the oil pick up filter while the pan is off?

It’s a 05 Lj 4.0 with 175,000 miles on it.

I don't have any suggestions for replacing stuff, but while it's off, you can get a good view of the OPDA and Cam gear. I'd take a look at it to make sure the wear is good.

At 175k, can't hurt to do your oil pump. It's just 2 bolts and a gasket while you are in there. Even though I bought a new Mopar pump, if I had to do it over again, I would find a pump that has the pickup attached. That was the hardest part of the job.

Replacing the oil pump isn't a bad idea since you're in there, just make sure it is a quality unit. If you don't replace it, check that the bolts are tight. I had one come loose before, and it could have been catastrophic.

Pick up filter can be cleaned without removing if you use a good solvent and brushes. Just make sure that oil pan is scrubbed nice. And like others said throw a mop at oil pump in there for future peace of mind. I like to prime any pumps I put in with some oil if you end up going that route.

You can also see the edge of the timing chain with the pan off. If I remember correctly, it was just enough to see how much slack was on the chain. Could be a visual guide to determining if it needs to be replaced. I'm not 100 percent that it will give you enough info as I had already replaced mine before I noticed that I could see it w the oil pan off but something to note just the same

Try & shake each of the connecting rods on the crank.... checking for slop. I spun a rod bearing at 116k & it was easy to tell without taking the bolts off the rod.
Clean out the oil pickup tube.

When I was younger I would have said to change out the oil pump since your in there. But now that I am older and more experienced in different types of pumps and have a better understanding of how vehicle oil pumps work ( gear pumps with hardly any physical load on them )— as long as you got 40 psi on the gauge ( and the gauge is accurate)- and hearing some of the folks on the forums say " what ever you do- dont even think about touching the OPDA"— I would not change the oil pump. Besides I have been hearing stories about how these engines have a super long lifespan ( 300K miles )
But thats just me
