I put in Polk Audio component front speakers last night, and will get a powered sub in this week to go under the rear seat.

I was looking at adding an amp for the front and rear speakers, and ran across the video below, that has this Taboo Customs Amp Mount Plate. The video shows it in like minute 37 or 38 or about that. I am going to order one, but it looks like it's made in the USA and, unless I'm wrong, just bolt in and go. Might be the next purchase.

https://taboocustoms.com/store/ampmountplate

Install video into a TJ, but it's the whole setup, HU, speackers and amp etc.

I saw that...and came across this. I'm not against DIY, making stuff, but for this amount, US made, I'm going to just buy it, ha.

Not bad for the price really. I have a small Alpine amp back there somewhere. I don't know if it's mounted to anything or just hanging by cables.

Bad front speaker choice in that video. You can tell that he didn't do much research. 4x6 speakers for the front just aren't any good, no matter who makes them. It is so easy to use an adapter and put matching 5.25 in the front for much better volume handling, improved fidelity and improved soundstage.

Not sure I agree. 5.25 alone...I didn't see a difference, or enough to really make a big deal about.

5.25 component, with tweeters in a speaker pod on the dash.....Big, Very Significant difference.

I did think the same thing, that he was putting in newer 4x6, but either way speakers pointed at your knees don't do that much, no matter the size.

I need a single 4x6” if anyone is ditching one. Polk, kicker, anything aftermarket.

I also really don’t like my amp under the steering wheel. It is just too hard to get to.

Have you tried contacting Crutchfield for one? They have great "return" deals.

No, I bought these Polk DB’s from them. The passenger side is barely reproducing sound. I checked the connection at the speaker and I checked the balance setting. And the connection at the amp. I have not checked behind the unit connection, but it does have some sound, so I’m presuming it’s the speaker. I could swap the driver to the passenger just to check.

If it is setup properly, you really shouldn't have to get to it. The idea is out of sight, out of mind for a thief. Plus, it saves the small space availability without losing anymore space in our TJ'S. I think those are the main points. It did take me awhile to get there but, I haven't had to touch mine, or fiddle with it. And mine is under the steering wheel.

I would definitely swap. You installed, it’s 6 screws a side. About 10 minutes to find out if it’s the speaker.

I would lean to it not, personally. Speakers have never gone quiet on me, but that's just me, they still produce sound and it’s crap sound, ha.
I'm sure it has happened, but a quick swap isolates the issue, simplest path to eliminating a variable. Speaker or Wiring or Amp or HU.

When I jus did this swap, of course Driver's side...dam thing buttoned up and no sound. Open up, and move the wires, and realize a small cut in old OEM wire. Cut and spliced it. Speaker out, I'd go Wiring>Amp (power or speaker connections)>HU connections. Just my order of troubleshooting, obviously after doing the Fader/L/R checks. Low sound, would make me think not a wiring issue, usually either on or off.

Yes, I am talking about alone, which does include potential. I added the pod idea to not lose sound to my 5.25's. The 5.25 are better speakers than, 4x6 speakers, just like 6.5 speakers are generally better speakers than 5.25 speakers. 5.25 generally are better volume/RMS handling than 4x6. 4x6 are basically s*** speakers. I mean, imagine a system with 4x6 speakers all around. That would suck. I don't know why Jeep rushed to throw those in, when clearly they had room for 5.25 up front. It would have made for a much better soundstage and they could have added "pods" to it themselves for cheap, increasing the experience/soundstage even more. I just don't think that there was much thought on the TJ sound system by Jeep.

Yeah, it’s not that big a deal, and I have only had to get there a few times for other reasons (wiring for backup cam, wiring for GMRS unit, one issue with amp wiring check, and dash harness swap for auto transmission). It was just a pain looking up on my back twisted checking or removing. Perhaps the space saving benefits outweigh the cons. It’s also really close to the head unit which is a benefit.

Probably because they already had 4X6 available at $5 cost per speaker (and worth about half of that).
