Hey everyone, I have a 2002 Jeep TJ 4.0L that is shifting almost immediately from 2nd to 3rd gear. I attempted to adjust the shift points at the TV/Kickdown cable on the throttle body but this did not make much of a difference no matter how far I adjusted the cable to each side. The transmission was also rebuilt around 7,000 miles ago and is reading full on fluid when tested in neutral with the hand brake pulled up at operating temp.

Thanks in advance!

Is the engine running when you're testing its ATF level and the transmission in Neutral? What happens if you adjust the TV cable just tight enough to remove the slack but not actually pulling?

Engine was running when tested and I tested the ATF level several times just to make sure it was reading right. Same problem still occurs when leaving just enough tension to not actually pull the TV cable.

Also interesting to note, for the fun of it I disconnected the kickdown cable from the throttle body and drove it down my street and it drives the exact same when the clip is attached no matter how it’s adjusted. Is this a sign the TV/kickdown cable is worn out?

Kinda doubt the TV cable itself is worn out, maybe a problem with its lever on top of the transmission? Get a helper to pull on the TV cable from the throttle body end while you watch the lever on top of the transmission it's connected to. It's probably time anyway to get a transmission guy who knows the 32RH involved. I'd avoid any chain transmission shops like Aamco.
