Getting ready to pull the transmission for clutch fork work and I drained the transfer case and found dark fluid, either motor oil or light gear oil. Definitely not dark automatic transmission fluid, I know what that smells/feels like. Whatever it is it is somewhat fresh as everything was gone thru 13,000 miles ago. It doesn't have the nasty gear oil smell and it feels like a synthetic motor oil. I have some NAPA Merc/Dex which I will use to flush it out and replace. Hopefully no damage has occurred. Should I rinse first with kerosene or just flush with ATF then change again soon?
Also the vent nipple on top had no hose attached, where is the transfer case vent supposed to terminate?
