My tj died on the way to work so i replaced the fuel pump with a new one. Didn't want to start and run. Battery good and starter running good. Gas gauge worked. Found ?breather hose? was not where it was when i took tank off. Placed ?breather hose? where it is supposed to be. Started up. Gas gauge stopped working after second start up. Died on way to work this morning. Battery working. Starter working. Fuel gauge still not working. Fuel in spewed out of fuel rail when pressed. I know i need to clean my coolant. Coolant guage seems normal. Bluedriver reader goes right to 100% no codes detected. 12 fuse is good in glove box. Do not have a tested for the fuse box under hood. What is wrong? Is it the pcm? Was it even the fuel pump that was causing the problem? Fuel pump had problems of not reading since i bought it and stutters for a year.

That new fuel pump could be bad...or the fuel pump relay.

Get a pressure gauge on the rail.

Check for voltage on startup on the fuel pump wires...the factory service manual in the resources section will help you identify wire colors.

This is normally where I'd ask if you are getting RPM when cranking... allegedly lack of RPM on the tach means a bad crank position sensor...but my 97 doesn't show RPM when I pull my fuel pressure relay...so not sure about that info.

I don't know how I got it started. The fuel gauge turned on. I primed it a couple times. I was messing with this hose for a little and it started to work. It is possible its not letting the pump pump because its creating a vacuum?

That hose is your differential vent. It should run up the fuel fill hose, just to keep it high. Zip ties are your friend.

Yes, reach way up by the filler nek and zip tie that to the metal tube at the top. You'll see it when you look in there.
