2.4L timing belt gear

Call Summit perhaps or your local Jeep dealer and see if they can find one?

Discontinued in 2024. Yikes.

Yikes. The 2.4L was used in a bunch of Dodge and Chrysler vehicles too, and unlike the block that should be interchangeable with any of them. I'd imagine you could walk out with a whole motor for spares pretty cheap as long as it's not a SRT4. I think most of the Chrysler 200 or PT Cruiser should have the 2.4L in them.

Well after much searching. I was not able to locate the 4748939aa gear. However, The gear for the 2.0 is readily available. (Dodge neon 2.0) It is the same diameter and the teeth, shaft, keyway, and timing mark are the same. However, it is about 1/8 in thicker. My solution is to machine down the inner recess on my drill press with a Forney 2 in grinding stone, checking depth to compare with the old broken gear, then when that is finished, simply grind the top to the proper thickness. Total cost $20 for gear, $7.50 for grinding stone. Pics to follow.

With as difficult as it can be now to find quality parts for the 4.0, I can't even imagine trying to find parts for the 2.5 / 2.4!

That sounds a whole lot harder than just getting a good used 2.4 gear.

If being brand new matters to you (doesn't to me in a non-wear item), I'd also consider an aftermarket adjustable one.

But then I'd also start thinking about upgrading the cam. Maybe adding a turbo. And....
