tachometer

Hi, we've got a 98' TJ with a start up and idle issue. The Jeep starts but gives no tachometer reading and engine dies after 2 seconds. We can't get a fault code as the odometer is also dead. Anyone ever come across something like this and have any suggestions? Note! This problem occurred soon...
