Is there an electric switch that controls this or is it purely mechanical in the tumbler? Check the video…vehicle can be running and in any gear, key can come out.

Not my issue, but on a family friend's 1999 4.0L. He has an issue where he can't get the key to turn unless he gives it a couple of good smacks with a mallet, and obviously, it gets worse each time.
