Parts list for a TDI swap

Interesting to hear from someone that's done these swaps. I'm not surprised if it would be cheaper to buy everything from Cotybuilt. You save the time, and it's easy to forget about small things that add up. I have to tell myself this plenty. Buy once, cry once. I agree with K1n3k about the CR...

Parts list for a TDI swap

I think the TDI's are probably the best supported at a lower price point as far as diesels go in a TJ. You should be able to get all the parts you need from Cotybuilt, and if you make the ALH a standalone harness, you can retain the jeep gauge cluster and readings, although you'll probably...

    Is an engine swap inevitable?

I think it was the 2l and 3l tdi's that were part of the buyback? The 1.9 TDI ALH, BEW and BRM engines are easy enough to find on marketplace. I would've thought those engines were too small, but what they can manage is actually pretty impressive. They sound pretty darn good too.

    Is an engine swap inevitable?

They've got pretty decent support. You can get an adapter for the trans from tdconversions, or cotybuilt sells everything for the conversion, harness adapter and all. The diesels are nice with the simplicity, and the low down torque is great for offroad. TDI's are readily available and...

    Is an engine swap inevitable?

Have you looked at swapping a tdi in? Not sure how the rest of your drive train would handle it, but theyre lighter than the 4.0, rev to 5k, put out more torque and sip fuel... the price of the swap is obviously going to be a bit higher, but you'd save that in fuel before long at all. Theres a...

What did you do to your other vehicle today?

Picked up yet another rig. Poor trailer was screaming, the ford sits at 9800lbs. Nice little lineup, from most power to least power (aside from the yota). Still have yet to bring my cummins swapped 1978 f250 home as well

    Howling / whining transfer case

Yeah ok. I just figure it's worth it to do that before digging into anything else too deep

    Howling / whining transfer case

Disconnect your rear driveshaft and drive in 4wd. What you're describing to me sounded like my diff before it went. Under throttle, couldn't tell. Light load in 4th or 5th gear, it howled like a mofo. It sounded like it was coming from the transmission but the sound travels thru the driveshaft.

    Should I buy this LJR?

Yeah that's pretty bad... Seems like most of it looks like it wouldn't be too bad, but that looks as if there's been salty water hiding in spots really rotting it out. To be honest, that's fairly easy fixable, but I have no idea what the rest of the underside looks like and there may be other...

    Should I buy this LJR?

Rust is nearly unstoppable once it starts eating through crap, I've dealt with it way too much in the Northeast. Probably not a massive deal if it's just going to be a trail rig that gets banged up, but speaking from experience, trying to restore it is a PITA. Hard to say without pics tho

Whine at low speed - transfer case?

If you feel comfortable doing so, try remove the rear driveshaft and put the TC in 4wd and drive around the block. My diff made bad noise before it crapped the bed, and all the noise sounded like it was coming from the transmission, and it was LOUD. I removed the rear DS and drove and it made...

    Engine misfire codes, high idle

Crap, sorry I didn't get notifications on this, sorry. I cleared out the codes when I first got the misfires, which they've returned. I think one of the o2 sensor wires is disconnected which is why it'd throw the heater issue too. I'll patch that up and see. Ok I'll give that a shot. I did...

    TJ Exhaust Manifold Design

Just using AI, it says the port diameter is about 1.375"(34.93mm) and the spacing between them is 3.75"(92.25mm). Not too sure how accurate it is. If you have the exhaust manifold off your jeep, you could even maybe use one of those 3d scanner apps and import it as an .stl and model off the...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Had a fun ride this morning. She crossed a double white line, two rows of traffic barrels and thru a construction zone just to hit me🙄 She's an Uber driver and her passenger jumped out and hopped into my jeep and cussed her out. He says she was completely at fault and wasn't going to ride with...

    Tire scalloping / vibrations

Thanks! Did the test, tiny bit of up and down play but nothing that looks like it's shot...still looks to be good After the new moog bearing and balancing, it still vibrated and wobbled. I'm sitting here doing a rotation, turns out after asking the tire shop to remove the balance beads, he...
