    Weird Low Idle Issue

The throttle body shaft seal is located above the MAP sensor so that leak won’t affect trims like one downstream from the MAP. A base gasket leak certainly will. To narrow it down, disconnect the HVAC vacuum line, EGR solenoid line, and brake booster line at the manifold and plug them. You get...

Tuning DFCO for better engine braking and fuel economy

I’m interested to see Skylines’ tps voltage at closed throttle and IAC count. He may need to open the throttle blade because the IAC can’t keep up.

Tuning DFCO for better engine braking and fuel economy

Is this with the throttle decay rates lowered or stock? Did the hang occur with a completely stock tune?

    Dana 35 Pinion Seal Replacement

Just to close out this thread, everyone’s instinct was spot on and the advice was solid. I had the opportunity to speak with Tom Woods Shafts so I asked them as well. Their advice and apparently a fairly common practice is torque to 160ft-lbs and red loctite the nut. Thanks again everyone.

Tuning DFCO for better engine braking and fuel economy

You are correct on the decay rate. The values are increments or steps of adjustment. Small number = small steps. I mentioned in another thread idle rpm and timing. I still think there might be something here. If decreasing your vss idle spark threshold to 8mph raised the hang rpm, it may...

    Dana 35 Pinion Seal Replacement

Thanks for the sanity check everyone. I think I’m going to get a new nut, gradually torque it while checking rotational drag. Hopefully get it to 160-180# with loctite. I’ll keep and eye on it and redo the crush sleeve after the holidays.

    Dana 35 Pinion Seal Replacement

I hate the thought of arbitrarily increasing the torque on the pinion nut, but I don’t feel this is correct and it sounds like you all agree. Thinking out loud, I could measure the current rotational force as assembled at the pinion nut and incrementally increase the torque setting until a...

    Dana 35 Pinion Seal Replacement

I haven’t increased the torque and tried, although if it does drastically increase the rotational force required, I’m cooked at that point because there’s no going back.

    Dana 35 Pinion Seal Replacement

The plan is to apply loctite to the nut on final assembly but again I was put off by the low torque on the nut so I haven’t completed the job. I agree that the figure sounds way low but there was no issues with the axle that would indicate a problem with preload/bearings. I was apprehensive...

    Dana 35 Pinion Seal Replacement

I recently pickup up another TJ with a weeping pinion seal on the dana 35, so I decided to through a $10 seal at it. Full disclosure, I know I'm taking a short cut here by replacing the seal without replacing the crush washer, but I'm trying to preserve a newly paved driveway and I don't have...

Yeah my bad - I guess I misunderstood. I never learned emoji etiquette. I was too busy yelling at neighborhood kids to stay off my lawn!

Why this response? I was giving him a compliment and appreciated his sharing. Other forums are nearly as open.

Nice work!!! It’s good see more people tuning and sharing especially because the dodge community is pretty tight lipped.

    Weird Low Idle Issue

As a tangent to the thread, you mentioned you have your idle at 824rpm and you sometimes have a hang. If you look at your timing table, there is a plateau in the idle areas from probably 500 up to roughly 800rpm where it then jumps up considerably. The pcm uses timing to control idle speed and...

    Weird Low Idle Issue

At rolling speeds above 2mph the pcm is adding to your target idle speed which is why you don’t experience the problem during a slow roll. It also adds rpm for a period after cold starts and when the AC is on, again masking the problem. Just for good measure, After you replaced your IAC, did...

    Weird Low Idle Issue

Something for the OP to consider is does the low idle occur when shifting from park to drive while stationary or only when coming down from speed to a stop? There are several things happening when transitioning from speed to a stop both on the engine controls side as well as transmission side.

    Weird Low Idle Issue

The stfts are normal. The high stft value you are seeing is a sensor 2 reading (post cat) which is also normal.

Low rumble when coming to a stop

I have a buddy who is oblivious to how clapped out his rig is. To its credit, it hasn’t left him stranded anymore than the rest of ours and he’s the most carefree guy on the trail having the most fun. When the topic of maintenance comes up, he always chimes in with a surprised “you really need...

Low rumble when coming to a stop

bad unit bearing? I had one that was rough and only apparent when coasting to a stop. Engine and m/t noise masked it under acceleration.

Post your side shot videos going over speed bumps at 15mph

Start with tire pressure like Hosejockey says. Hard to see, but if the spring is compressing and rebounding with that force, it would be from insufficient rebound damping not too much.
