    Gear pattern check

Ok... dropped the pinion shim from .020 to .018. Backlash went to .12. Going to pull the passenger carrier bearing and add a few thou to tighten up the backlash. My read on the pattern is the pinion is too far away... meaning add pinion shims. Right, wrong? -Mac

    Everlast welders: Who has one?

I have the Everlast 65 amp plasma cutter and I'm very happy with it. I too am interested in a TIG or MIG spool gun setup for aluminum. So I'm curious what folks think. -Mac

    1999 TJ intermittent no start

Well if you have spark, and you have fuel...and it's not starting...then it's either compression or timing. I'd be testing fuel pressure. Verifying spark. Then a compression test. Inspecting the cap, rotor and plug wires. Checking the battery voltage at rest and while cranking. -Mac

    Cylinder 4 Misfire

Well my experience with Walker is 50/50 on two O2 sensors. My downstream 2001 F250 worked perfectly. My 97 TJ did the same thing as the OP and ranged slightly higher than .9v and my fuel trims were high and gas mileage suffered. I bought a NGK and it did the exact same thing. Sample size of...

    Heater Core Recommendation

I used a Four Seasons on my 97 but it's much less than the factory spec. Seat heaters supplement HVAC heat. -Mac

Should I install missing catalytic converters?

I'm good with the one that's on my 97. It's down near the transfer case. I used an aftermarket high flow. -Mac

    Highway speed with rpms

Exactly what gas mileage are you getting? Have you monitored live ODB data? Fuel trims, O2 sensor voltages, vacuum. Data will help pinpoint the problem. -Mac

    Cylinder 4 Misfire

You can listen to the injector clicking by holding a screwdriver to the injector and the handle on your ear. You could move the injector and see if the misfire moves...but...I'd definitely be pulling apart the loom looking for wiring issues. Especially back of the valve cover where it turns. -Mac

Dropped shims from .24 to .2. Still too deep. Going to drop to .18. -Mac

    Gear pattern check

Getting closer. Added .008 to the pinion. Pinion shim under the race was .16 now it's .24. Oil slinger is .58. Backlash went to .08. I think I'm good on pinion depth now...I think I need to move shims from one side to another. Billavista says if I have coast side heel contact to move ring...

    O2 Sensor Hell

.9v isn't exact science. The correct explanation would take pages. It's not much over .9v. But it is over... I chased this neon rainbow for a couple of months too. -Mac

231J transfer shifter wont go to 2WD, stuck in neutral

Honestly hard to tell from a picture. On that lever all the way forward on the vehicle and up is 2wd. In this video I'm talking about a missing snap ring but I do eventually shift the case. Watch that part. -Mac

    O2 Sensor Hell

Interesting. I replaced my rear O2 on my 97 with a Walker...did the same thing and trended above .9v...then a new NGK...same issue...then I grabbed a used NGK off a 2001 and it works perfectly. New parts suck. -Mac

    Cold start question

Most folks will steer you towards Delphi. I put a brute power in mine source from RockAuto a couple years ago and it's great and 60 bucks. You also can take apart the fuel pump assembly and just replace components...
