    What's that noise? (Mac's edition)

Ok...been chasing this noise for the better part of two months. I have tried... 1. Replacing the front axle u-joints with new Spicers. 2. Replaced my ring and pinion on my Dana 30 with a Yukon. It's set up a little deep with .005 backlash. 3. Removed my new Tom Woods driveshaft...noise...

    Powersaws - what's everyone using?

Volunteer for some trail maintenance. I'm sure they'll run you through plenty of safety and training classes. That's what we do. I'm a B cert bucker for chainsaw and crosscut with the Forest Service...they won't give volunteers faller certs, only paid employees and fire contractors. Funny...

    Powersaws - what's everyone using?

Comfort breeds complacency. Same thing with electric saws. -Mac

    Franken-winch?

I have an older M12000 winch on my truck...the solenoids were getting finicky. I bought a $30 contractor off Amazon and rewired everything up under the hood. -Mac

    Powersaws - what's everyone using?

I also set my chain brake when I'm moving with a running saw. -Mac

    Powersaws - what's everyone using?

It's good but it's boggy and really needs sharp chains. If I did it over again I'd just buy one from West Coast that was ported right off the bat. -Mac

    2.4L timing belt gear

Call Summit perhaps or your local Jeep dealer and see if they can find one? Discontinued in 2024. Yikes. -Mac

    Gear pattern check

Yup very very aware of this. I put things back together again last night for a little test drive. The reason I did the gear swap was because I was hearing a noise in the front end like a playing card in a bike tire. I figured it was probably the u joints but since I was going to pull the front...

    Rear wiggle when driving

I think I'll hold off answering until you slowly put the loaded parts canon down. That being said...yes, I agree with your choices... -Mac

    Transmission leaning

Pictures would help! 3" body lift is massive. We usually recommend 1 to 1.25". -Mac

I know when were discussing some other axles...shaved 14 bolt I think...we were discussing how some folks preferred slightly deep. Thoughts or just remove a thou from the pinion. -Mac

    Transmission leaning

That'll need to be addressed before summer. You might want to check the fan clutch before then too. An inch or two of clearance should let you get them in. I'd loosen the transmission mount bolts so you don't tear it up in the process. Do you have any lift? I ask because this would be time to...

    New Tool Day

I'd rivet a 3/8 aluminum plate under that case and four castors. =) I bought an extra harbor freight deep impact socket set for my trash pickup box. Figured I wouldn't need anything bigger than 15/16 so I left some at home. Immediately ran into a piece of stolen guard rail that was 1 1/4". -Mac

Getting closer...moved carrier shims... passenger is .43 now and driver is .50. Than from passenger .40 and driver .60. Backlash is .005. Pinion is .19. More work to do tomorrow. Need heat in the shop. -Mac
