    Is my steering box shot?

The lock nut that secures the adjustment screw has to be loosened counter clockwise before you can turn it. Maybe that’s where that stems from?

    Is my steering box shot?

If you need to make an adjustment, you start by turning the adjustment screw counter clockwise until it’s all the way up. Then you go clockwise one full turn at a time until you reach the torque spec. That’s the official procedure. If you’ve played with a bunch of them, experience will let you...

    30RH transmission slipping after rebuild

I totally agree. I was was making a joke to hear about having to adjust the bands when the trans was just built and should have been adjusted then.

    30RH transmission slipping after rebuild

You’re supposed to adjust those after rebuild?! Crap That’s the real challenge. Having to start off with, was it built right in the first place, or are we just diagnosing a simple part failure. That’s me. I can’t let questions lay. I need answers. I’ve played with pressure testing when viable...

    30RH transmission slipping after rebuild

You sound like you’ve never seen expert screwing up. At this stage of life, I would not be shocked if I opened it up and found a Twinkie stuffed in the valve body. I think you’re barking up the right tree if his fluid level is good. It would have to be bleeding off inside. The next question is...

    30RH transmission slipping after rebuild

Hey Jerry, just for my own knowledge, again not familiar with the 30, doesn’t the throttle valve affect line pressure and in theory could cause a slip by not allowing enough pressure to secure the bands or clutches completely? Or is that not an issue on these transmissions?

    Is my steering box shot?

Gotcha. I knew about the chain reaction touching the adjuster opens up, but wasn’t aware the hard parts wore so bad. Thanks jj. Love your build. Copy catting some of your stuff.

    Is my steering box shot?

He said he didn’t have any play upstream of the box, so that’s why I went after the box. Hear is pretty on it, so I just assumed he would have covered that. I’m guilty of having done that too.

    Is my steering box shot?

Your saying the gear wear is where the slop is and not the worn bushings? Just curious what you’ve seen.

    Is my steering box shot?

I agree. There is an adjustment but you can only adjust it a tiny bit before it’ll cause very accelerated wear. Rebuilding them is not hard. Hose jockey has a great video on it.

    30RH transmission slipping after rebuild

I’m not familiar with the 30 either, but does it have a throttle valve cable that requires adjustment? That would cause some of those symptoms too.
