So we bought a Jeep—2006 LJR

Looking forward to seeing the install, if you can be detailed that would be great. Likely adding these in the future.
Sure... I tend to forget to take pics at times but I'll do my best, just pester me if I don't show something and you're curious. It's gonna be a bit of a slow process since time is limited (going to be out of town this weekend for my daughters wedding) and I'm planning on doing the body mounts while the slider is off, access is just easier and doing them together I can be sure they line up right without taking something off that I just put on :)

Congrats!!

In no hurry. I'm in the getting the garage setup phase for a week or two before I may start turning wrenches and armor will be an afterthought to axles and engines.

So, no actual install progress really, but more pics, and I found a better way to hold it in place. I ended up picking up some relatively cheap aluminum swivel jacks used for leveling campers. They only extend to 17" but are cheap (50$ for 4) and are designed to sit in a stack of camper/truck leveling blocks which I already have a bunch of for my camper. They supposedly support 6000lbs each, but I wouldn't trust them for that, for this though they seem to work pretty well.

I ended up using a third on the tube to lever the top towards the tub, and I was able to start centering it and looking at where I will need to trim. To start, there are these round bits that the fender flares attach to, they are behind the new slider so I'll have to cut out a bit of the slider so it fits around them, that will allow the slider to move in flush to the tub. Once that is done I can check final fitment and measure for the front/rear cuts.

Here are the two parts I have to cut around:
Front:

And Rear:

And here are some other pics showing how the shape fits to the Jeep for those that asked:

I'll have to trim the fender liner just a bit in the front I think.

cutouts for the body mounts, back two are just a bit torn up :(

So the slider instructions say that after you drill holes for nutserts, you should dimple the hole so the nutsert and thus the slider are flush with the body.

Anyone able to tell me how would one go about dimpling the hole?

So a bit more progress after I got home from my daughters wedding this weekend. After a bunch of test fitting mixed with cutting/grinding I have it mostly cut out the way it's going to be.

Note that this is MY work, and it's as good as it's likely to get lol as I haven't done much of this before but I think it will be good enough for my purposes and hopefully look OK from at least 10' away :)

Here is the rear, cut out around the fender flare mount point. I had to cut away some of the lower corner armor.

Here is the side of the front. I will be trimming the thin front part off once I figure out where I want to trim it.

Where I trim will depend on this part. Not surprised at all but the inner liner doesn't line up and I don't like the gap at the bottom. especially as I had to cut some away to allow for the angle of the new slider. I think I'm going to try to weld in a small plate to fill the gap, overlap the inner liner just a bit.

maybe... it's like 1/4" steel so... plus I'm not sure how that would look, it's a thought though, one I hadn't had :)
Nice job Dave.
This is up and coming for me.
I've been putting it off, but your spurring me to "get busy".
Appreciate your write up.

I looked at it and couldn't find a way to bend it up that "I" could achieve a look I would like so I went ahead and did it this way instead. I think I'm happy with it though I might trim the inner corner just a bit more.

And a couple with the fender flare held in place.

So I got one side done.... after all the grinding/cutting/welding was done on the slider and it fit, all that was left was to drill holes, put nutserts where needed, and install the slider.

I primed and painted the slider and brace here... nothing special, just cleaned with mineral oil, primed, then painted ... rattle can style! lol.

Then with all the scratches/holes/small rust spots where the old one was I decided to clean up, sand down a bit and paint the lower part of the tub that will be behind the slider to try to stop rust issues in the future.

And finally, a couple pics of the slider mounted. Now I'm working on the other side.

Got the other side done, just have to re-do my wiring for the led lights I had under there.

So yesterday I was cleaning out the back of the Jeep (the Naches and Moab dust was unbelievable) and since we are taking some friends out wheeling at Reiter Saturday, also putting in the back seat for the first time since I got the Jeep. While doing so I got a pleasant surprise.

Though I did think about it, I didn't specifically build my storage 'box' to fit with the seat in place, but lo and behold it fits perfectly! there is about 1/2" between the seat back and the box.

Really happy to still keep all my gear in the box and be able to have the seat in place.

That Moab dust gets everywhere. I find it every time I do something to the rig.

Imagine what it does to our lungs..

Yep, then add some good eastern wa dust on top from trail jam lol... was a mess!
One of the biggest mistakes i made was going topless for the trail jam. I’m still finding dust inside the jeep 😑

Thats the truth, as hosts we had 6 days of dust, lol and most of the time we were tail gunner just to make it worse :) I took the soft top sides off but left the top on for shade since it was like 95-100 degrees.
