What brand of replacement fender flares should I order?

You’re probably better off looking for a used set from Craigslist or FB marketplace. Usually can get them dirt cheap. Just scuff them down, primer and some black paint and they’re good as new. And they’re probably better quality than anything you’ll buy brand new that’s out OEM style wise.

I will have some stock ones in a month or so ...cheep cheep cheep - she is getting painted Sahara flares

Have you had success with this? Has your paint job stood the test of time?

There are a few threads you might find on here with google. Several have had success. A few have failed. My paint job didnt work. But many have had success with krylon, sem, other brands and various bedliner sprays.

My own personal opinion is that if your going to take the time (and sometimes dealing with the nutserts can be a problem) to remove and replace the flares. You might as well buy new. Because if the paint fails your gonna have to remove the flares twice.

But like i said. Mine failed. And im gonna have to take them off again. And put new ones on. I think the plastic is uv protected. So i know it will outlast paint.

But alot of guys. I would say most. Have had good luck with paint. The key is prep. Dawn dish detergent, sand with auto body scotch brite pads ( i think they are grey iirc), wipe down with laquer thinner, spray with adhesion promoter ( although i think krylon makes a two in one adhesion promoter and paint), then light coats with your favorite paint or bedliner. Follow the directions on the can. Completely. Cant stress this enough. I used to think setting up the first coat overnight was a good idea. Terrible idea. Follow the directions on the can.

I suspect mine were just to broken down from the sun. And i tried a plastic dye prior to paint. That failed and i had to restrip them and paint them. But even prior to all that the flares were bleached a blue color from the sun.

I attempted to paint plastic flares a couple times many years ago. I tried some different prep methods but never went to the lengths you described here. My paint jobs always failed.

I've since moved onto steel flares which are much easier to deal with.

I just tape around the fenders and pop them with Rustoleum industrial Black after a scuff and solvent wipe. Takes about 45 minutes and looks good for a yr or two. Keep in mind I like things nice but I ain't the pickiest either.
