Unless the pics were taken in Missouri where it sounds like the was apparently from.
You’re probably right, but there’s no excuse to not have new photos if you have it in your possession.

He does say that it was his brother’s and “This is one of two he left us.” Something still seems weird.

Ok I have concluded that more is going on here.

When I talked the the guy yesterday he said his uncle had two rubicons he was trying to sell.

The ad yesterday showed a stock khaki rubicon, but when I showed up it was a black lifted Rubi. Kind of weird, but I went ahead and give it a once over because it looked nice. I mentioned the discrepancy in the ad and he said “well he has a white one that he just sold yesterday, so maybe he accidentally posted that one.” I thought ok maybe, old people can be dumb/lazy when it comes to technology.

So I test it and he’s telling me he doesn’t know anything about jeeps and he’s just the middleman. Ok no problem, so I’m going over everything that’s wrong with it, including the janky 4x4 shifter and the locker lights flashing. But I showed him they were working (at least the fronts) and how to tell if they were locked or not.

We get back after testing it out and I ask to see the title. It looks goods until I flip it over and see how the lines on the back don’t look quite straight, like I mentioned above. I’m very skeptical at this point and point it out. But the guy is also really cool about it. Doesn’t seem like a scammer or that I’m wasting his time. The title matched with the VIN on the dashboard and the frame but I had decided until he could get it verified by a authorized DMV service that I couldn’t justify handing him any cash. He apologized profusely and seemed really nice about it so I was thinking maybe this was a genuine mistake on his uncle’s part because again, old people are dumb/lazy sometimes.

Before I left, I shook his hand and asked his name and he says Kyle or Kevin, can’t remember exactly. This is where I really raised an eyebrow because on the CL ad, the contact name was Jason, and the name on the title was Sam. I don’t know about you guys but Kyle isn’t anywhere even close to those two names.

I was hoping that for $8k I could get something to build off of but there’s definitely more to this because now the contact name on the new ad is Gerald. And the ad mentioned the two things that I pointed out were wrong/not wrong.

I’m glad my daddy taught me to be an observant and critical thinker and not to impulse buy 🙂

Sounds like a good call to pass. Definitely doesn't pass the sniff test.
