Is the battery supposed to just sit on the tray like this?

The battery on my TJ just sits on a tray with nothing holding it in place. What bugs me about it is that if I were to push it toward the passenger side, the positive terminal ends up very close to the edge of the body. Is there some kind of strap that's missing? Thanks in advance.

No, there's supposed to be either a clamp on the base of the battery at the front or a hold-down clamp that goes over the top of the battery and secures on the base at the front and rear. Get that battery secured, you don't want that battery's + post shorting out against the tub in an accident.

Like others have said there is a bracket that is held in place by two bars that connect to the tray. The tray itself is bolted down.

Hold down bracket is like $10-15 on RockAuto. Had to replace mine when I broke it by over tightening

Look for Dorman 00592 (05-06 only)
