We Need to Talk About Truck Design Right Now Before It's Too Late

I bought a 1962 Scout with the half cab years ago for $350 to use on the ranch. That thing would climb a wall! I used it for years on the ranch. It had half of a V-8 in it. A guy offered me $1,000 for it one day and I took it.

Then you had the VE266 in it. I had a '67 and a '68 Travellall that both had the VE266. Great engine. I rebuilt the one in my '67. Absolutely loved that rig!

Remember the slant 4 that the little Scouts had? They were literally half of the 304 V8 (152 cid). Wild!

*Pontiac also had a slant 4. It was half of their 389!

Remember their distributor caps?

I suppose I better get some sleep. Gotta be a golf cart mechanic tomorrow. My wife bought a golf cart to use around the property. She ordered a headlight/tail light kit for it. It came in the other day. She didn't want just a regular golf cart. She wanted a lift and bigger tires.

I like her already!!! :)

Yea, the new Chevy definitely takes the cake when it comes to ugly grills, but I honestly don't see a lot of trucks that I like anyways (especially with modern trucks). There's a trend of making them bigger and bigger, which I just don't get.

While I've never owned a truck myself, I've driven my dad's owned several, including a F-350 King Ranch which I've driven around enough to know that I hate the experience. I love my TJ for how agile and nimble it is, so driving something that feels like a school bus just makes me cringe.

Ya'll know how to tell when they are getting too ugly, too big, too long, or too anything? That's right, when folks stop buying them and they are left with lots full of them at the dealerships. Buyers communicate desire and acceptance with their wallets. That's not gonna change and get back to me when the parking lots tell a different story than they have for a very long time which is they sell everything they build regardless of much else. ;)
