Car pics too cool not to share

And this beautiful monster, even though it's a Ford. No prices posted on the last few. They might be listed over at Mecum.

I do love the GT40 and the Mk II was the real success story of the program, but to me the Mk I is the better looking car, unmolested by the additional (but necessary) ducting.

If this is legit, this (2nd, yellow) Cobra was either sold with the Dragon Snake package or it was customer installed. Not too many of them around, but they were campaigned with success in the day.

I've never heard of a "lightweight" GT40.

I believe there were a number of lightweight cars well as some roadsters built. Some of the lightweight cars can be recognized by their squared-off ribbed rockers. This is an Alan Mann Mk I car, might have been team-modified as this sports revised side ducts as well as rear brake ducts ala Mk II. Note the rockers.

That number might be 3. "XGT-3, 1 of 3 Factory MkII Lightweight Examples". IDK GT40s well, so without reading, those 3 might be MKIIs only. What does "XGT-3" indicate? I assume "X" indicates a non-street, track only vehicle and "GT" is the vehicle, but what about "3"?

Edit; I just read a little more. The "3" above indicated car #3 of the factory built lightweight cars. From what I've read, the Alan Mann cars, 2 built, were 289 cars that took the "lightweight" material usage a step further than what Ford/Shelby did. The car @chili_pepper posted with the ribbed rockers is one of the two Alan Mann cars.

Very possible, though I would have guessed it for a modified Mk I.

Chassis serial number. I suspect "X" might indicate it was a lightweight or special build, I imagine all built had the "GT" and the "3" likely indicates the third of the XGT cars.

Just found this. Doesn't say much about the specifics of the the cars, only competition history, but seems to cover the cars built, XGT are toward the bottom.

Note the "J" cars at the end, I believe Ken Miles was killed testing an early "J" prototype.

They were at a solid 2 million and I could only get them down to 1.8 . I guess I felt a little ashamed at my negotiating skills , so I didn't say anything to you guys .
;):p
That said in 1982 I did have a 69 Camaro SS that looked just like this one , I bought it for $3200 and was the 3rd owner . A lady bought it new in Phoenix and had it till 1981 , sold it to her nephew in CO and he sold it to me in 82 because he was buying a house.

I always had nitro, never electric. A buddy tells me modern electric RC is better when it's time to buy the kids something, but I still like the nitro that you had to learn how to tune and rebuild. Speaking of, I still have my old Traxxas Stampede, 90s vintage. She's still apart from the last time I had to rebuild the engine, but I lost interest before I got it back together, so it has just been sitting around for 20+ years. I think they still make some version of the Stamped. I probably should look into getting it back together and see if I can get it going.

I just noticed it's sitting there with my Nintendo 64, PS2 and Super Nintendo. Also, those black pillows in front are some Dale Earnhardt ass pads from a late 90s Coke 500. Nostalgia.... $5,000, I know what I have.

I've had quite a few Nitro R/Cs over the years, started with a T-max.. I broke the engine in at home in the front yard (new construction so still just dirt), took it to work with me the next day and ran it around on my lunch break. the lot was big enough to go fast enough for it to hit second gear, and the second pass I made when it hit second a car drove in and I looked away for a split second and SMACK!!! right into a steel post! DAMN had to replace the entire front bulk head and 3 of the 4 H arms. That was a shitty first day of WOT!!!

I used to love nitro until I got my first brushless.. I still like nitro but for speed there's no replacing brushless and HUGE power batteries!

Edit: and yes they still make the Stampede but it's only in electric :cautious:

These are you choices for nitro now. Oh and Traxxas has an awesome engine trade in/engine upgrade program!!

I had a number of A-bodies back in my youth, including a '67 Dart GT convertible with a 383 Magnum out of a '69 Road Runner, backed by a 4-speed with a pistol-grip and a Dana 60 with 3.91s and a Sure-Grip. It was a fun car that no 18-year-old had any business owning. ;) I also owned a '68 that ran a hot little 273 Commando in it, backed by a 727 and an 8.75 with 4.10s and a Sure-Grip. All told, I've owned 13 A-bodies in my life. My favorite MoPar platform, to be sure.

started with a T-max

I had a T-Maxx for a while, which I assume is the "T-Maxx Classic" now. It was my upgrade from the Stampede. Fun truck, but I got it toward the end of my RC interest.

Oh and Traxxas has an awesome engine trade in/engine upgrade program!!

I remember reading about it, but never used it. I always just rebuilt my engines. I actually enjoyed that and the tuning. How does the engine trade-in work? Maybe my old Stampede needs a new engine. :sneaky:

Speaking of RC stuff, the only other thing I still have is an old Traxxas Nitro Vee (took me a minute to remember that name), but something in the driveline locked tight on that one before it got put away. That thing would run near 50 on glass smooth water. I remember racing a few bass boats at the lake.
