That’s pretty much what I do too. If I’m getting into something under a vehicle that I may have no idea what sizes I’ll need, I take the whole socket rail or tray. If I’m working in the engine bay or interior, I’ll just grab individual sockets since my tool box is only about 8-10 feet away.

Something I started doing a few years ago is made a spreadsheet with sizes and torque values on stuff as I work on it. I keep them in those plastic sheet protectors in a folder for easy access to look at before I start something. It’s come in handy a few times when it’s been a while since doing a certain task. I’ve also forgot that I made the list a few times until I was done with the job, so there’s that.

My other vehicle I've owned since 2008, I've got an extensive fastener cheat sheet for that one. Just starting one for the Jeep.

Here’s my camping table 27”x47”. Sets up in under 2 min. Takes up no space in my teardrop.

As for portable work tables I use a piece of plywood on a trashcan, a 2’x4’ folding table or 2’x6’ folding table depending on the size of the work.

This is just un-American. You're supposed to grab the wrench you think you need, crawl under the Jeep to find out it's the wrong size, crawl back out, grab the "right size", crawl back under and find out that isn't it either...

Or

You have all needed sizes already under the Jeep. Too bad the one you need in-hand right now is either just out of reach, or you're laying on it and can't find it...

Or

You actually have the right size in-hand at the right place. BUT - its the wrong type of wrench. Stubby vs long, box vs open, 12pt vs 6, whatever. Crawl back out and have a hell of a time finding the correct type even though it was just "right fucking there" 2 minutes ago. Then find the correct style where it had rolled under a tire...

Working on getting a little better organized in the garage. Milwaukee has a sale on where if you spend $399+ on Packout gear, you save $150 instantly. While I originally thought some of the items were pricey, once everything went together it became clear that the cost was well worth it in time saved. Although I'm not done yet, the results exceeded my expectations.
