Any Ideas? GMRS mobile radio mounting locations

This Jeep is our only vehicle with an airbag . I've been driving vehicles with no airbags since 1982 , and didn't start wearing a seatbelt until I was forced to by law .

Passenger dislikes airbags just as much as I do . We also grew up riding bicycles without helmets 😮

To each his own .

Everyone has the right to prefer to be “thrown clear” and it’s a family joke around here. Sometimes that’s for the better.

A couple years ago there was a Camaro that wrecked just off the road from where we lived. It was estimated to be going over 140 miles an hour and did not even touch the brakes when they went over a curb and straight into a group of giant pine trees. I checked out the crash site after. There were literally millions of pieces of that Camaro all over the place and probably an area 50 yards long by 25 to 30 yards wide. The driver was belted in and he was killed on impact. The passenger was not belted in, thrown clear and ended up surviving. Insanity.

Some people are lucky. I would imagine that being thrown at 140mph they landed quite a bit away from the car. I bet they did not just walk away.

They were in the hospital for several months.

Like was said, to each his own. I just wanted to make sure it still wasn't working so when you tinked a tree off road going 8mph, it didn't turn into a GMRS shrapnel flavored claymore.

Having worked as an EMT for a few years, you CAN just leave it up to probability. Though your chances of wearing a seatbelt and living are much higher than if you don't and hope the 'gods of physics' somehow save you. Lots of instruction during training regarding what happens when you become a projectile.

Jerry Bransford often told a story of some idiot who didn't like to wear his seatbelt so he could jump out in a roll. Of course, that guy died when he jumped and the Jeep rolled on top of him. Darwinism...

If someone thinks it's safer to not wear a seatbelt, I just figure they're not very bright (and aren't going to be alive after their next car accident).

For clarity, we wear our seatbelts and I’m not trying to convince people to not wear them. The family joke is the sarcasm in the statement, “I’d rather be thrown clear!” Yeah, good luck with that! It is rare that someone does better without a seatbelt than with one. I’m a proponent of seatbelts and should have made my post clearer that the story I told was the exception and not the norm.

Being retired from the Fire service and an EMT for 32 years I am very familiar with the different accident scenarios . This was before and after the addition of airbags . One also has to take into consideration that newer cars are designed to absorb the impact. With 3 major highways and 2 interstates in our response area I have worked more accidents than I can remember . That being said , I do wear my seatbelt by choice on and off road . It helps to keep me in the driver's seat where I need to be . The airbags , my preference is to not have them .

If I drive without a seatbelt I feel like I'm flopping around the damn seat lol I like how it keeps me in place

Jeep never came with a head unit and whoever took it out made an awful mess of the wiring for it... I'm usually with my wife or a friend so I prefer no music since me and whoever is passenger are always chatting. Plus I like to keep an ear out for any "new" noises 😅

This is by no means a clean install but it fits my needs and keeps me safe on the logging roads and that's all I care about.

Dang! No tunes on the trails?

I did see someone that mounted a bluetooth speaker to their roll bar. Not the best for quality, but better than nothing.

I'd consider a bluetooth speaker but if I'm cruising alone (more rare these days) I'll put in some wireless earbuds on a low volume. I have to keep an ear out for radio calls from logging trucks so it's safer to have little to no tunes when I'm on the haul roads.

some of the logging trucks around here are nearly 16ft wide and leave no room for anyone who missed a pullout...

Please don't take this post wrong, it's not for sympathy, it's for giving both sides of the coin.

I am living proof that not wearing a seat belt saved a life.......

Wasn't buckled in when I totaled my Scrambler in 98 going 35mph. I was thrown clear, but the roll bar was pushed down into the driver seat headrest 4 inches. Sheriff said if I had been buckled in i would have died.

My 16 year old son is proof that seat belts don't save lives. He rolled a 81 Toyota 4x4 in 2001 and died, buckled in when the cab caved in on him going 30mph.

I wear a seatbelt but I surely don't trust it to save my life.

I have sympathy for your loss.
As said before it comes down to the luck of the draw. When my Son was in early 20s he drove his drunk un seat belted ass off a 70’ cliff off roading one night in his 2001 Tacoma. He landed roof down on the loose grave that had fallen off the cliff over the years cushioning the force. The back end took the brunt of the force and the roof over the drivers side was flat. There was enough space on the passenger side for him to crawl out. He walked 6 miles home. We went back the next morning to survey the damage and recover what was left. What we found was a Sheriff’s helicopter circling and several deputies looking for bodies. The wreck was about 3/4 mi off the paved road and it took us all morning to drag it out and lift it onto one of our trucks with 2 forklifts and get it to my shop. It went to the scrap yard after that.
