For the record Ive bought a ton of parts using
car-parts.com. Seats for a surprisingly small shipping cost. And a ton of other stuff. Most places have pics. And also if the wreck car it came out of. So you can see where it was damaged. Like rear end is demolished. But your buying a part off the front.
I bought a low mile, newer year, engine for my JKU last year.
*Remember, if it has a vin you can run a vehicle history including the accident that totalled it by running a Carfax.
I ran a Carfax and found out where the Jeep had spent it's life, how well maintained the engine was, how often the owner had had the car serviced at the dealership. And the exact verified mileage. It took enough ofnthengues work out if buying an engine that I opted to go this route rather than a new engine. And it was alot cheaper. And the two year new engine had had several factory problems with my own year - fixed by then. Which was the main reason for replacing it in the first place.
There are a few really great Jeep places across the US. This one was in Indiana iirc. And their site included all pics, specs and everything. Nothing was hidden. Nothing a typical old time junkyard would have you playing craps in a used trans or engine.
Car-parts.com has changed how you can shop junkyards a great deal. I really miss the days when I could walk abyrad and pull parts that were better than what I currently had. Or have them pull the parts. Just being able to walk the yard and shop for things you might like to upgrade was awesome. And it was always way cheaper than the dealership. Not always the case these days when junkyards can download dealer price into their database. But there are still good yards out there.
The fact that you can search almost all of them across the entire US with one search query in
car-parts.com is revolutionary.
This is THE one place to start your search. No matter which car or part your looking for.
