I've been lurking on the forum for a few months now, but decided to take the plunge and join up now that I've run into a problem I can't solve with the amazing guides.

I run a 99% stock 2003 4.0 Manual in the greatest color Jeep ever made (I'm biased). I've had it since 2013 as my daily driver(although, I ride my motorcycle as much as I can), but I'm looking to phase it into a "fun only" vehicle in the coming years as it's cresting 23 years and 160k miles. I've replaced parts here and there as I can as a broke kid, and I'm hoping to continue to upgrade things to keep it running well for another 20 years. I learned stick on it, and then taught two others on it, and I hope one day my kids get the joy of learning on the same Jeep. I just want to avoid going too overboard on aftermarket mods 'cause I really like the original look and feel of the TJ compared to more modern mall-crawler aesthetics.

I'm really hoping to learn a lot of "best practices" from the forum here and maybe correct some mistakes I made in the first decade of ownership in this second decade. I know a diesel guy who keeps trying to talk me into the 4BT swap but I'm absolutely not ready to take that plunge...yet. Either way I'll just keep doing my best to keep it going. Glad to be here!

At the time I was buying I had the option between a white 04 Sahara with 110k and the yellow 03 Sport with 74k and my teenage brain didn't even consider the white Sahara. Now I'm hooked, and I wish more car companies did fun colors like Jeep does...I don't think I can switch to a black or white or silver sedan after this!

They do do fun colors still, most people are just basic AF and don't get them. I really liked the blue VW offered
 
Haha I should know better than to mention subie in a jeep forum! Let it be known, I ain't getting rid of this bad boy for anything less than an identical jeep with lower miles, which would be pretty dang hard to come by at this point in time. My poor dad never understood why I got it in the first place, and he still suggest I buy something more practical in addition to the jeep, but I've told him that won't happen until we need something to haul carseats in.

My dads solution to my shitty choice in cars was to start selling his old ones to me. You should explore that route
 
I think so too! I got some guff that I should have gone with newer, higher trim even if it had more miles, but I have no regrets about this one. The only thing I never figured out is where this one got the aftermarket Texas Off-Road Edition decal, but the internet gave me no clues back in those days.

If you joined so we’d help you not go overboard on mods we can’t help you here! But very few would recommend mall crawlerbling.

Yellow is ok, I guess. 😉 good to have you. Look forward to seeing what you do with it. What are your plans?

The guy right above me ^^^ has some good plans for the solar yellow crowd!

Honestly, the plan right now is keep it running long enough to graduate and get a real job to start stepping things up. And then, fix things as they break with better things. Upgrade the audio, cause I love music (when I'm not at highway speeds). Fenders are on the list, as are bumpers and wheels, but again...nothing too fancy. I've tried to avoid picking anything out so I don't get too antsy with where I am in life right now! Ultimately I want to get it rigged to go take on trails, but I've avoided even thinking about that until I have another vehicle as backup...😅

Not gonna lie, NashvilleTJ's rig is sick as hell. He's probably spent more on that damn jeep than I've seen in my entire life so it had better be pretty fantastic, ha!

Don’t ask him how much he’s spent, but it is sick, and he’s learned so much and passes that on to all of us, so he can pretty much help most people.

Then there’s Blaine, and he’s in “a league of his own.” The Guru!

Play it smart. A lot of people in here give stuff away or practically give stuff away. Watch the For Sale section. People are willing to help. Great community. 🙂

Everyone has been really nice so far, and that's why I wasn't afraid to join. We all love one thing, and we want everyone else to love it too. That's what makes a group of folks great, in my limited experience. TJ owners are a different breed ;)
