thought you guys might appreciate this or atleast give you a good laugh. Just twincharged my jeep. Runs idles drives. Only a few pulls on it since I’m back to work for 3 months, but it’s an expensive noise maker and pretty fun. Until I put a bigger turbo, upgrade internal etc it likely won’t be any better than solely a turbo. Not enough testing to see how well intercooler is working, but time will tell!

That is probably the most ridiculous mod I’ve seen done to a 4.0. - and I’m digging it! I’m imagining a you cleaning out the garage and needing a reason NOT to get rid of stuff….. I got this turbo left over from project X and this blower from project Y …. damn, nobody gonna give me real money for this stuff…. Hold on! The jeep has massive under hood space! - Yeeesh - keep us posted of your shenanigans

Haha yep. I bought a banks turbo from a guy that said it was good to go. Diablosport was messed up so couldn’t access tune. Bought a supercharger where the guy hadn’t unlocked the tuner like I explained and showed him how and then never messaged me back. Unless someone else was going to pay big bucks to get one of these used kits without a tune it was supposed to come with - I figured well I might as well do something crazy. Actually just finished the garage about a week ago putting doors on and that’s when I decided I was allowed to start this project. Cut the grille up a bunch to fit a huge intercooler, bunch of research into how vacuum needs to work, sensors etc and a couple of days making custom brackets for pulleys and belt clearance etc. it may not ever be more efficient than solely a good turbo set up, but it’s fun and it’s something I don’t imagine has ever or will ever be done before. Now back to work for three months but had enough time to get one test run in. Gotta stand out somehow!

What are you going to do for fueling and tuning?

47lb mustang injectors in it, stock fuel pump currently. Steven Scala (you can find him on Facebook) has tuned it for me w/ HP tuners. On third revision with the first three being with nothing but idling, and it’s running and driving good enough now. Needs some fine tuning but he’s a very very affordable tuner who does some really good work. Really great guy. I tried to use FRP but they said they weren’t interested so luckily I found him.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get the Diablo device to work. It took a good deal of effort to get mine to unlock & synch with the PCM.

Did you cut down the plastic intake tube to the turbo's compressor and plumb to there from the cowl?

My biggest question involves around keeping your IATs down at higher boost. How do your numbers look?

Any issues with lag?

Potential fix may have been jumper in pcm connector 1 between pin 11 & 12. Necessary for wrangler fix pcms for manual jeeps with ngc, is a known fix for using HP tuners on those which resolved that problem atleast for HP Tuners. Sprintex sells their tunes on the new diablosport devices but I spent atleast 8 hours with their tech support and they were zero help whatsoever. I used to have an old spectre cowl intake and just hadn’t taken out that mounting spot, if that’s what you’re referring to. Right now I just have a air intake cone mounted where factory spot is (passenger fwd), going into compressor and then directly into grille which is cut apart to fit a 27” air to air intercooler, out the other side tucks under supercharger and into air intake. Not perfect but was the shortest distance of piping to have a grille mounted intercooler. When I tested this the other day, it was 40* Fahrenheit outside so I wasn’t concerned in the slightest. Got jeep to operating temps but due to outside temps being so low, I don’t think my IAT got above 60*f (mounted in the intake manifold, post turbo and sc. didn’t have time to weld in a fitting for post turbo before IC, after IC and then also just in the manifold, but that’s a goal for later. I live in NH where outside temps get to 90* in summer so not too concerned, but plan will be eventually to weld all of intercooler piping, wrap all exhaust tubing, and I have a turbo blanket to put on as well. Considering hood louver from genright as well. Most boost I saw was 12ish I believe (on accident), I never got around to pressure testing what waste gate was at so I was shifting solely off boost. As soon as I touch the pedal it wants to take off. So I would say not much lag if any due to SC doing its job, but I’m no engineer nor have much experience besides my gfs LJ I build which has the banks turbo, where it’s definitely a little delayed. I’m using banks turbo mount, and the only thing I really hate is the air intake port. Is way too close to the fan, and I’m not sure the best way to pipe the intake. I considered going back to the cowl (because cool sucking noises in the cab, and idk maybe colder) but I’m off to work for 3 months so have to research the maths and sciences of what I just built before I really get into stress testing. Only got three revisions done on the tune, so a bit rich at idle and not enough fuel in boost, but stuff that’ll get worked out as I get more time to test.

Your intake temps look great.

I noticed an improvement when I added the hood louver, turbo wrap, and wrapped the downpipe in the summer. I also wrapped the exhaust between the pre-cats and up-pipe and noticed no penalty since removing the wrap.

13 psi was about the highest I saw boost reach on the highway due to a malfunctioning waste gate after first installing the kit. I've been much happier since going third-party aftermarket that opens only when I want it to open. (I'll DM you that info in case you ever need it)

Pulling from the cowl would provide you with a CAI, so that's probably the way I'd go if you can pull it off without noticeable lag. But it's not necessary if your AITs look great at higher boost in the summer time. It sounds like you have a good mind for this, so you'll figure it out.

I'll be happy to talk with you more about this later when it's a good time for you. Best of luck on the work trip.
