Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ engine mounts

Car pics too cool not to share

Swaps are popular. A FRS/BRZ with an LS would be fun and reliable.

I suspect it would be the opposite and throw off the balance of the car completely.

A lotus Elise SC would definitely rock my little sports car meter !

Indeed! A Series 2 Lotus Elise/Exige is a good thing. Another car I would like very much to own (and I would daily it).

They say it doesn’t

Fair enough, if they've done it. I suppose my point was that the cars are well engineered as is to provide for the driving experience. They aren't overpowered for a reason.

But speaking of swapping engines, this did get me wondering something...has anyone swapped to something other than a factory power plant in their TJ and still managed to pass emissions testing? I fully realize some people may not have to deal with the testing nonsense where they live, but for those that do...

Maybe the California peeps.

emissions testing 🤢

emissions testing 🤢

They've convinced the masses we are a big part of the problem (well, that and the flatulence of beef and milking cows) and that this will make a difference (as will eating grass/bugs and giving up those tasty cow products)...so in states like the People's Republic of Maryland, we have to comply.

Of course, currently both of my chariots are due and both are throwing fits, but I'm helping to save the planet so... 😀

I think the PCM has to match up with what the E-test computer is expecting to see for the vehicle being tested. What is government style stupid is , it doesn't matter if whatever was swapped in passes or is even cleaner than the stock engine you fail and get slapped.

IIRC, in CA as long as it is of the same year (or newer) and manufacturer, all emissions components are there and "working", and there are no codes it will pass compliance.

My memory could be lying to me so any of the CA folk feel free to chime in on this one.

Neighbor has a Lotus Elise.
Cute car.

It’s not a car for a tall man.

While I didn't drive it, my butt spent some time in the driver's seat of an '05 Elise. At 6' 5", I thought it was fine for space, far better than an e90 I owned. I have trouble in most cars, particularly with headroom and the rearview blocking my line of sight. Even my LJ suffers from the latter - an issue I'm in the middle of solving with a bracket design to relocate the mirror.

Granted, you don't want to be a wider person, the Elise interior is spartan but doesn't feel cramped to me. Probably don't want to wear work boots to drive it, either.

People that go to a car show and don't pop their hood 👎👎👎👎👎👎

I hate when people just automatically open their hoods at shows, it kills the aesthetics of the cars and makes the show field look like a used car lot with a bunch of broke down vehicles. I've seen way too many small block Chevy/Ford/MoPars Hondas and Toyotas over the years to be impressed enough to want someone to pop their hood. It's an engine, every vehicle has one and unless your rolling all billet, yours in not impressive. ;)

Look at these nice clean cars.

Now here's a line of broke down hoopties trying to cool off their engine hoping it will start and run long enough to get close to home. :sneaky:

+1 , I don't want to see the crappy stainless braided cover with anodized ends over worm drive clamps on your heater hoses , or the corrugated stainless radiator tubes with rubber hose ends.
I will make an exception to this if you have a second gen Rochester FI unit or a real factory L-88 / ZL-1 engine !

Makes taking decent pictures a bit of a bitch.
