Whats up with this fan 2002 4.0. Did they add an electric fan to this jeep?

No, someone added a pusher fan to your Jeep. Most likely was having cooling issues so they added this. Do you still have the mechanical fan?

This isn't my Jeep. I was going to look at it tomorrow. It's a 2002 50,000 miles and looks very clean. I noticed the fan in the picture and thought I would ask about it before taking the drive tomorrow. It is at a dealer. In regards to this "pusher motor" is there anything I should ask or look out for?

Looks like someone added a pusher fan to the condenser. Is the mechanical fan still installed?

I haven't looked at it yet. I was heading up there tomorrow. So not sure. Would this pusher motor raise any red flags??

First see if there is a shut-off switch for the electric fan & if there is turn it off.

Then turn on the A/C & take it for a test drive in traffic so you're stop & go. Then take it out on the highway and make the engine work, meaning get a load on it like climbing hills. Keep the A/C on and see if it overheats. It should stay right around 210* once warmed up.

Also pop the hood and verify that it's got the stock mechanical fan still. There are many "Cooling Your TJ" threads on here that will help solve issues.

It would raise a flag for me since people don't usually do things like this unless they are trying to solve a problem.

That said, we don't know why they installed it...for example, was it installed in hopes to make the AC blow cooler or to lower engine temps? Or did they randomly read bad advice on the internet saying they should install it even when they didn't have a problem? Either way, I wouldn't want that installed.

I'd see if you can unplug the pusher fan or power from the relay (or from the battery) to see how the engine temps look and how well the AC works without the pusher fan running.

That's my current $.02

To me it looks like its on the condenser and it looks similar to my condenser I dont have a fan n mine but I wonder if it does help when the AC is running

Thanks, I didn't know what that year condenser looks like.

I'm sure the fan helps with the AC, but by how much? I could maybe understand it in Arizona with 115+ summer temperatures, even though my AC works fine without an additional fan.

Well im in Ca and it was a like 90 out and my AC only blows cool air not ice cold like my other cars so maybe thats why?

If it blows cool, you probably need to add some refrigerant. How 'bout stick your BBQ thermometer in the center vent and see what the temperature is? It should be low-mid 40 if the refrigerant is charged properly.

This is mine when the temperature was only 90º outside. When it's 115-ish out, the vent temperature is closer to 50.
