Washington Washington members that live to wheel

Definitely planning on extra fuel. I have one 5 gallon Jerry can for fuel and one for water on my bumper. Should I bring my portable camp fire. Runs on propane. Also can bring corn hole if anyone is interested. I’m hoping to be there Thursday around 3-4. I’ll stay posted for further instructions. Hoping this outing goes better than last time at Tahuya.

How far are you from Tahuya? I'm only about an hour away and have been wanting to get up there.

I’m an hour from Tahuya. I’m in maple valley. Everything is an hour at least except my go too which was Evans creek. That is now closed because the WSDOT sucks ass. They knew that bridge needed repairs many years ago and did nothing.

I'll be sure to post in here some time if I plan to go to Tahuya, maybe have a little impromptu day trip

I need to ask him if doing the weld thru hitch receiver is related to the frame tuck

Fortunately for the LJ - the bumper and that extra crossmember all tuck together. I did my hitch before the tuck and didn't have to do anything with it when we tucked the rear. The one thing I want to go back and do is add a couple braces on either side closer to the hitch between the bumper and second crossmember.

I was thinking the same. Some gussets there would be peace of mind. Piece of mind for some. LOL.

I've got a smaller fire pit. We can't have a wood campfire now so I'm not bringing my saw.

Tahu-who? 🤣

Never been.

It's over on the westside and is a fun little area but it doesn't have much in the way of hard trails. They did haul in a large amount of rocks to make a crawl area.

Browns Camp in TSF just outside of Portland is a better area to go play at.

It's a DNR area between Shelton and Bremerton on the Hood Canal. I've watched a bunch of videos, and have some friends that have been. Seems like it has some mild trails but better than most of what is within an hour of me. They do, however, have a few hardcore areas that are more like single obstacles. Actually, Dirt Lifestyle Nate just put out a new video this morning taking his Samurai up there and hitting those lines. Not somewhere that would be worth a trip across the state, but good for local play.

It is small. Good for a few hours. It can be easy or hard depending on what you want to do. I have seen some rock buggies over there that were fun to watch.

Last time I went was when that crawl area had just been built but I was in my ex's Liberty to it wasn't something I could even attempt.

We'd done a Wheelers for the Wounded event there. Took a 1/2 dozen veterans for a weekend of wheeling. Stayed at a local B&B. Raised close to $5K for the Fisher House also. It was a sponsored event by the PNW4WDA. This was in 2009 I think... I'd have to go back and find the pictures.

Back when I still had two legs. And YES this was 2009

This was a tribute Jeep the dad built for his son that was killed in Afghanistan.

I’ll check it out. Thanks for the commentary. If I find myself that way it sounds like a fun day to play.

Seems like a cool event. Do they still do those? I'd be down to participate in a good cause like that. My whole family are veterans. I am, my dad retired, one brother served and deployed, and my other brother is about to retire in a few months (and has a purple heart). Over the span of about 25 years, we all four managed to find ourselves in Iraq 🫤

I feel like I've seen that LJ years ago. I first moved to JBLM area in early 2011, so maybe saw it around town or something.

That blue Commando looks pretty sweet! And so do those moccasins 👌🏼

No unfortunately I couldn't generate enough interest in people continue it after the first year. There are a few states that still hold an event using this name. It started with a guy who was from FL & had come up with the idea while deployed to Afghanistan. Had his Jeep modified while deployed and then we he came back he spent a year driving around the country. But he ran out of money when he'd made it as far as NV. Had to turn around and head home.

I'd made the moccasins when I was doing some in-patient treatment with the VA.

That's too bad! It's always a shame when events with good causes and purpose can't get the support they need to thrive.

Nice! Always therapeutic to make something with your own hands. If Rick Pewe can wheel for decades in sandals, moccasins ought to do the trick!

Yeah it seems like that is how it goes anymore.

I was looking for ways to distract myself from the pain I was in so doing things with my hands helped. Made a lot of models back then too.
I couldn't wear them when wheeling... I've been wearing boots since I was 9 years old and still do now.

I think I'd said this already but just in case....

I'm going to be going over to Jim Sprick Park to visit friends at the PNW4WDA Trail Jamboree on Thursday so probably won't get back to camp until 7-8 PM. If you don't know what my motorhome looks like this is it...Can't miss it...

Just setup anywhere around me and I'll see ya when I get back to camp. I'm 1/2 way loaded now and plan on getting the trailer hooked up tomorrow and then loading the Jeep so I can leave my place sometime before noon on Wednesday. Should get up to the camp around 3 PM since I've got to stop for fuel.
