First, no trimming required for this 3.55 up carrier, but had to remove the ring gear to take out the spider gears.

Even found both front brake lines installed wrong causing interference at full lock and the outer rubber hose was torn, so new brake hoses up front.

After about 35 miles, no noises or otherwise any indication of a front lunchbox locker.

31s & stock axles up front.

Good catch on the brake lines, possible prevented an accident. This is going to be my next upgrade for my front end, but it has 486s so not sure how easy it will be to add.

I installed mine a couple months ago, mine required a lot of grinding on the carrier housing to clearance the locker.

I will say though that this locker is unnoticeable in a front axle, I've never heard or felt so much as a single click out of it. I'm on 33s with stock axles as well so I eventually will upgrade to chromoly shafts.

What are these strange creatures?

I remember when you did this - I'm under the impression that this is VERY rare?

Yeah, I remember him doing that too. Never seen anyone else have to do it.

There was the crack debacle where one guy got like 3 cracked units. That was a big scare and people started looking at and buying other auto lockers.

There was another member on here that had this clearance issue as well when I posted a thread about it, I also found a YouTube video of another guy showing me how he cleared his, so it does happen, but seems to be relatively rare.

That's good - I'm going to be installing one that I've had for 3 fucking years^H^H^H^H^H^H^H awhile this fall when the weather cools off, I'd just as soon not have to deal with this, but its good to know about just in case...

Even if you have to grind it like I did, it wasn't too difficult. It's intimidating to pull the axles and carrier if you've never done it before, but it's really not that complicated.

Yea, I've been studying up. Going to replaced damn near everything in the front end while I'm at it: knuckles, steering, ball joints, bearing assys, U-joints (axle), blah, blah. I was going to do it right after Jeepin' with Judd, but it started getting hot right afterwards, so I'm doing it this fall instead.

I went through most of the same maintenance on my front end last year as well, I learned a ton in the process and have several new tools to show for it. 👍

I "think" I have all the needed tools, but I'm allowing plenty of time to do this job so I have time to go buy the tools I needed but didn't know it!

The gear ratio does not matter as long as you don’t change any shims, which if they are pressed between the carrier and the bearing, won’t fall out anyway.

I didn't have to, but I bought a ball joint press. I also bought a beefier torque wrench that can do the 175 ft lbs on the axle nuts.
