Anyone have a lead on decent front door seals?

i’ll get you a couple pics. tomorrow when the weather is better of where i put weatherstripping.
i got omix door seal for my drivers door because the oem one got a tear in it on the rear of the window frame. window frame and hardtop are a very tight fit and will pinch the seal if you don’t tuck it in before shutting the door completely. it seems to fit fairly well. way better fitment than the crown and fairchild brands did. they were both junk.

I think I know what you mean with a tear in it . my door seals on both doors are obviously shit and when you go from the top and go down I've got a tear in mine too I can grab a pic later. should I go ahead and get the omix ones for both doors or just get that weatherstripping stuff

If they are torn you're probably better to replace anyway. As to which replacements to buy, total crap shoot, I'm afraid. I think adding the extra 1/2"x1/8" would be next on the list if the new seals won't play nice.

I've seen worse, but I would imagine new seals couldn't hurt. Unless you park nose-high, I'm wondering if your seal is leaking just at the front. That 3rd shot is at the rear of the door, and that looks to be quite wet.

Still amazes me that Chrysler couldn't be bothered to get the entire door (among other body parts) covered in paint...cheap bastards... :ROFLMAO:

That's on the passenger side and for some odd reason it leaks there off to the side real bad . I'll start with new seals first which probably will be bought here soon . From the other posts up top I'm assuming the omix ones are the good seals at least ? On the bright side those seals are half the cost than the other ones I sent a link from . should've taken a pic of the driver side floor mt it tripled in size with water overnight with how much it rained

Well, I'm kind of wondering who all actually manufactures their own seals of the brands available to us.

I ordered an off-brand from Amazon that another member stated fit well, appeared to be shaped correctly and didn't leak (he posted photos). I bought from the same listing some time later and the seals I got fit and looked nothing like his. I'm not convinced they were actually the same seal, regardless of brand being the same. That said, I believe Omix is kind of OEM-ish stuff and they make quite a bit for the TJ's, so you might get lucky.

Thanks , after going down the rabbit hole of all this I don't know what to believe at this point . I think at this point I should just order the seals and go from there.

the 12” X 1/8” weatherstripping is cheap enough to not do. easy to take off if it doesn’t work out. i’m leak free for the first time in four years. just in time to get the top and doors off. smdh!

Glad the weather stripping worked. And, isn't it nice not to have to worry about wet floormats or carpet anymore. I will say one of my pieces has moved a little on the door frame, but ist still doesn't leak. If it ever moves to far and starts leaking I will just pull it off and put a new piece on it. I bought 66 feet since it was so cheap.

I used this door seal after reading it would work. It didn't though. I think it leaked more. The lip on the top is rolled in instead of out like the factory door seal. Not really sure if that is a problem or not, but it seems like it would be. I actually still have my old factory seal. It isn't torn, but it was leaking, so naturally I replaced. I would actually put it back on, but since it doesn't leak now with the weatherstripping I don't won't to touch it.

I'll definitely be getting that weather stripping stuff on top of the actual door seals . if you don't mind could you attach some pics or send me a pm on here on where to put the weatherstripping at since I'm new to all of this .

This is one issue my current replacement suffers from, you explained it in fewer words. And yes, it is important. If the seal is tight enough to the jamb, it might not leak either way, but the lip should end up somewhat vertical when the door is closed. The creates a primary seal for the main bulb and also creates a channel to guide water away from the opening. Crude section sketch follows.

seal section.jpg

This section shows what a proper seal should look like across the top of the door with the door closed. Gray is hardtop or door surround, red is top of door, black is the seal. If the lip folds down and follows the bulb, it will tend to channel water into the joint (this is precisely what mine does).

Edit: I should add that, on my current seal, I also believe that this "lip" feature is smaller/shorter than on the factory original.

So is the only option that has worked for more than one guy so far just to reuse the OEM seals if they’re in decent shape and add the 1/2” x 1/8“ weatherstripping where needed?

that’s what i did and so far no leaks. i did replace drivers seal with one from omix due to a tear in the oem seal.

weatherstripping is on the painted part of the windshield frame and the black plastic piece on the window frame. also two short pieces along the top covering the gap between the windshield frame and the hardtop. i believe my jeep was leaking from the gap between the windshield frame and the hardtop. i never have had any wind noise with any door seals used, just water in the floorboards. ran jeep thru an automatic car wash and that area is where the water was coming in at.

Thank you for the pictures too ! It was much needed for me too since I was very confused on where to put it .

What year are your Jeeps? I am currently on this journey with my ‘99. I got a replacement set from extreme terrain. Started with the drivers door and after removing my factory seal, realized that my doors don’t have the pins all around. I have a channel strip thing along the bottom of the doors. 😒

So I returned them and just ordered the Fairchild ones from Rock Auto. Then, I found this thread. Sounds like I may need to get some weatherstrip as well….

Being in the PNW, rain is a thing. I haven’t ordered new carpet yet as I want to fix the leaks first.

mine is a 2006 so the seal attaches differently than the earlier models.
