When I was looking .. this same thing you are describing drove me nuts. So many companies and models and it's hard to differentiate good vs bad. In general seems to be the theme for most stuff these days and Amazon is pretty atrocious to sift through reviews and listings.

But eventually I found the one that I shared above that ticked all my boxes. Recommend carefully thinking about and making a list of features you want to have and then using that to whittle down the junk you see online.

I like that size you got Sri. I may have to pick that one up. Like you, I rarely do more than a day trip in the Jeep and the Amazon special I got is kind of too big for short trips and takes up a lot of space.

Yeah, size was a big deciding factor. That company I linked makes 4 sizes (10L, 18L, 35L, 45L). The bigger ones are just waaay to large imo for a jeep. I think somewhere between 15-20L is the right size for our TJs. Mine is 18L size and it's nice and quiet and does the job. I may get a spare to keep in the garage or use in another car. Blaine made an awesome mount for me which I am very happy about.

I can finally run the welder from the garage. I converted the clothes dryer to gas which freed up a 220v. Measured and drilled into the space behind from the garage. This is also great because I’ve got more cord and a lot more position options. 🙂

Nice! In my last house I just unplugged the dryer when I wanted 220 🤣 I bet that's convenient.

It was a pain to keep climbing up over the counter and reach way down behind dryer just to get 220, so I was using 110 a lot. Not ideal though, so fixed now. LOL

I have enough 231J’s and parts of 231J’s to shake a stick at now.

Are you going to build a stockish one with a SSYE or are you adding the 4 0r 6 pinion gear & wider chain? Doing the shift fork too?

Since you rarely hear about the 231 breaking I'm curious to see what you do. The most I've heard about was the shift forks having issues. Of course I've seen a few that weren't reassembled properly and the pump & shafts were ruined from lack of oil.

What are you doing to this one?

I intended to rebuild and put behind a Rubicrawler, but now that I’m staying with a Tera4Low I don’t know what I’m going to do with it. LOL. I’d rebuild it if I had another SS SYE.

OK.... I figured since you were playing with it there was something else going on,,, I could see beefing it up but don't know if it's a needed thing... Even if installing it behind a Rubicrawler.

Its harder to make an Atlas argument since you are in the auto club😀

If the Tera takes a s—- someday I’ll have it, rebuild it stronger with the SS SYE and keep rollin’. It’s also a direct fitment to my son’s 2004 Sport. Not that it is likely to ever break. Maybe I can help someone out if they need a full unit or parts. This one’s a good unit. It came from a 2000 XJ. Has the short snout.

Got a P0302 code. Checked my records and I changed my plugs at 67,000mi and now I’m at 118,000mi, so they’re about due. They were Autolite Double Platinum. I’ve had some Autolite Iridium sitting around for a couple years, so I started with Cylinder 2 and checked the plug. There was no center electrode exposed. So, I replaced all six. Back in business. Purring like a kitten. Cylinder 1 plug at the bottom and working up to 6.

Picked up these rad jigs and brackets for some true floating shelves I’m making for my daughter’s new house. She just got married and I made her leave the bookshelves I made for her a couple years ago. Doing due diligence to make something that will really benefit them. Three true floating shelves in their bathroom. Sweet setup to recess the bracket in a butcher block shelf.

Here’s my cooler and sub setup. I need some better straps for the sub. I just had that on hand and gave it a shot. Won’t work. The cooler isn’t going anywhere and I have easy access. I had purchased some aluminum rails to tie things down to, but the stock seat brackets work just fine. I still have a lot to think through, but most, if not all of the tools will be in the back inside the Bestop Instatrunk.

That is a nice fit between the wheel wells for the cooler. You have it strapped to the front seat brackets and rear seat brackets? You know I've been waiting to see this pic of how it looks installed 🙂

Just the front seat brackets. Seems immovable! Definitely accessible from the front seat reaching back.

Would it be plausible to have the subwoofer fire downward that way you can stack parts and tools on top of the enclosure without concern?

Worst case, you could just remove it for those occasions, but I know how much you like bumping the L7 in the rocks to New Kids On The Block.

NKOTB is da’ bomb!

Might just remove the sub. I bought a French Clete to attach it to the Instatrunk, but never was convinced I wanted to do it. Another idea I’m swinging around is an aluminum cargo carrier modified to attach to the B and C pillars. Then again K.I.S.S. keeps yelling in my ear.

Yea it kinda comes down to what you prefer to prioritize.

A trail build makes great sense if it's a rig that hits the trail more often than not. But if you don't hit the trails as often, that allows freedom to do other things as long as those choices don't compromise your rig on trail day.

I DD my rig way more than I trail it, but I try to keep the cargo area open so trail days can't harm anything.
