TJs in beautiful places

That’s my kind of wheeling. Road is rough enough to keep out most of the riff-raff.

Funny you mention that. The place is Merus Adventure park and they have a no atv, no side-by-side, no motorcycle policy. Just full-size 4x4s. Beautiful land and great trails.

Plus, they have hiking and mountain biking trails (as does the state park next door).

I cut my teeth mountain biking at Palo Duro Canyon State Park back in ‘94-‘95. I’ve always had a soft spot for that area, even after moving out to the Denver area in ‘96. I’d love to check out Merus soon.

Admittedly, Amarillo and the surrounding area is one of the most desolate, barren, depressing landscapes I have ever laid eyes on in the U.S. … you would never expect to find a place as cool as the Palo Duro canyon near there. But drive southeast a bit and the flat, open grassland, fields, and windmills just abruptly give way to a massive, geologically and biologically colorful canyon that is just beautiful and so cool. I highly recommend visiting.

I grew up about 2 1/2 hours northeast of Amarillo, just across the Oklahoma panhandle and 3 miles into Kansas. Amarillo was like a paradise comparatively. You haven’t seen barren wasteland until for reasons unknown you find yourself in far SWKS or the OK panhandle.

Back in the day I bought a 58 Chevy PU in the Panhandle. Coldest I’ve ever been. Foggy and just above freezing. The front of my truck would build up 1/2” of ice which would peel off in sheets. We planed to spend the night after loading the PU but we said Hell No and started back to Ca right away. That moist cold air just takes the heat right out of you. Even -30 in North Dakota doesn’t feel that bone chilling cold.
