A front engine dragster is one of those cars that, if given a chance to actually drive it, I think I would pass. No gear tooth enema or clutch plate castration for me. :sneaky:

Those guys had some serious street credit..... Growing up 90% of the dragsters I can remember were all front engine mounted. I can't tell you when it changed.

That could be around the time frame of things changing. I was living in AK in 1970 & was more interested in dog sledding & who was going to be running in the Iditarod than I was cars. Then as I got close to legal driving age I was more interested in cars I could afford.

I knew Don was one of the pioneers in that area, but not the only and maybe not the first.

In the story I read from Garlits years ago, he said he was drawing up plans for a rear engine car while he was still in the hospital.

Well, he had the time... :D

Quite honestly, if a piece of machinery removed a chunk of my body in failure, I suspect I'd be pretty keen on preventing a repeat performance as well.

Maybe he too lost a foot and needs the other shoe for his foot?

There's also the most likely option of he's just dumb like that.

I've scratched my exhaust pipes before and looking at that Hog I'm willing to bet he's anal about it.
It's all speculation at this point.
