Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

What did you do to your TJ today?

Had a full weekend of dry weather so I gave her a once over with a clay bar followed up with machine applied compound, polish and wax. She ain't ready for the Pebble Beach Concourse but she looks a damn sight better than she did and now she's sporting a little protection as well.

As it started to rain a few minutes ago....found myself wondering when the last time water did this on the old girl... :D

My 1 year old Oreilly’s radiator blew its top yesterday, luckily, as I pulled into the driveway… this is the 2nd radiator that’s popped since i bought the TJ last July… The first one was also a “store brand” that was installed when I bought it…
They have warning labels on them IF you look close enough. ;)

Need some help. I posted about this at least 6 months ago, but didn't bookmark the reply. I have a bit of rust on the passenger door. Any ideas on how to remove the rust, prep it, and do some touch up paint to make it look nicer? The spot is about 3/4" long.

Same exact spot 2 of the 3 O'Reilly radiators I had in my 2000 popped. I switched to the aluminum Cold-Case radiator. I've been very happy with it since installing it. O'Reilly gave me my money back on the radiator I took out.

I didn’t ask for a refund, I just got a replacement… I’ll put it in the shed as a back up just in case… Maybe having a spare will keep the new one from blowing out… Lol

Short term a rust converter will slow it down - makes it iron phosphate.

Sand first

Then converter

Then etching primer

Then sand with 220

Then regular primer

Then sand again

Bondo if you want it flat

Block flat

Prime again

Sand

Color

Then clear and blend in

Then compound

Don’t expect perfection if you don’t repaint the door

I've found that my local O'Reilly, AutoZone, and Napa keep the radiators in stock. I got my Cold Case from my local offroad shop in 2 days.

Today I fabricobbled a fitting together to finally solve that fuel vapor smell. Turns out I broke the “Y” connector for the fuel tank vapor vents when I replaced my completely rotted away evap line. It’s SO nice to finally be rid of that fuel smell.

Thankful to have had the spare time at the end of the day to pull it in and smoke it, despite it being like 100°f/ 80% humidity today.

Finally got around to cleaning it up and putting the tires back to street air pressure after a Windrock trip two weeks ago. First time I have touched it since I pulled it off the trailer. Gonna need some touchup paint :)

What brand are those windshield frame guards? Trees keep coming at me in the woods and I haven't been great at dodging them. LOL.

UCF (Under Cover Fab). After seeing a friend mangle his windshield frame and realizing how easily it was to do I ordered some as soon as we got back from that trail ride. The metal on the sides of the windshield frame is surprisingly thin.

These days I don't worry too much about body damage since my TJ is mostly a dedicated trail rig now, but replacing windshields and frames is something I try to avoid.

Yes, I know how thin it is. Hence the reason for the question. My frame is full of dents. I'll pull them out and then get a set of those. Thanks.

Yours seem to fit tighter at the top than the photos at UCF's website.

Edited: with additional questions.

Since my clutch pedal won’t move I managed to get the Jeep started By doing the old switcheroo with the fuses to bypass the clutch pedal start function.
At least now I can Manoeuvre it around the garage easier.
Apparently the tow guy will pick it up on Monday and take it out to the mechanics to get looked it…. It’s not going to be cheap

Exactly why I do all my own work, I don’t even want to know how many shop hours I would have been charged to rebuild my 2.4… easily thousands

I do as much as I can myself for the same reasons…. But I certainly don’t trust myself with a gearbox 😂..
