Where is this 32RH transmission leak coming from?

Maybe I ought to... if only I knew someone who was enthusiastic about bringing specialty discontinued products back to the people who need them and had a habitual relationship with machinists...

I'll dig around... like I said I do have one extra.... let's verify that's really what you need via the vin and then we'll talk. Shipping to Australia is probably a bitch. Additionally, that transmission did have a 231 originally. Any reason the longer input couldn't be swapped in? Building a tcase isn't that hard.

Swapping in a longer input shaft is definitely on the table if thats what it needs. Over the weekend I’ll pull it and have a better look. The atf on the tcase is from me pulling the speedo gear after it shit itself. Ive been meaning to get into it anyway to replace the little blue gear that got chewed up.

As I understand it, the ax15 does not need a seal extender to run a 241 swap, the 32rh does. That would lead me to believe that the output seal on the 32rh is shorter than the ax15. The np231 transfer case was the standard transfer case behind both of those transmissions.

That means there is a different input shaft length on the transfer cases that came with manual vs auto transmissions of the given year, or that the ax15 had a longer output seal area unnecessarily.

Wow I should have just googled it, it's right here. https://wranglertjforum.com/threads...ions to look,The short version protrudes 1.2".

So if you could find the appropriate sun gear or input gear from a automatic paired np231 you could potentially swap it in. Be a good time to install an SYE if it was ever on your to do list.

Previous owner installed an advanced adapters SYE and tom woods driveshaft which has been awesome. If the Tcase i have has not been changed and is the factory Tcase installed with the trans do you have any idea why it would be leaking after only 12 months since the rebuild? My guess is the bloke that rebuilt didn’t install correctly or maybe nicked the seal. Or is this just a common spot for these trannys to leak?

It probably is the factory TCase, being the 4wd transfer case. No reason to assume otherwise that you have mentioned. IF the PO swapped the transmission from the manual to an auto you would be left with the short input transfer caused mated to a transmission that was originally designed for a long input shaft case...

If that is what's going on, you should either swap the input gear on the tcase, or get a seal extension for the transmission.

Potentially the seal is making contact and you have a leak between the transmission body and the tailshaft housing as we originally suspected. The only way to know is to pull the case and measure your distances and mating surfaces to estimate if the seal is making contact with the tcase input gear.

If I have time this weekend I'll dig up some pictures of what I'm talking about.

Run your vin to see if your jeep came with a manual or auto from the factory. What makes you think it was originally a manual?
