I'm trying to make a bad locker choice, need a voice of reason

If it were not for the obnoxious cover they are a pretty decent design.
You know infinitely more about this stuff than me.

All I can say is that I've tested my Eaton lockers plenty in the rocks (D44s). They have never unlocked on me in reverse, never been difficult to engage/disengage, and I've never needed to move the tire a half revolution to get them to unlock. I was mindful of this after reading that this was a problem with earlier versions.

I've also read that some recent ARB lockers have had internal air leak issues that require the assembly to be removed (supposedly due to using cheaper parts than previous bulletproof ARB lockers). I don't know if that's true or a legit problem, but it did reaffirm my desire to go with the less complicated system.

I consider both to be top choices and recognize that there's gonna be chatter out there for and against each kit (reminds me of Ford vs Chevy battles).

My suggestion is to buy whichever kit you want.

I can tell you more than you want to know about early Dana 44 elockers and their not unlocking issue that Eaton knew about and refused to deal with.

The ARB thing I believe was a batch QC issue of the piston material and has since been rectified.

Both are good choices and the only reason I lean more to Eaton is the ease of install.

After some seat time, I moved the rear to the left because I use it more.

Mine is a daily, so I had to label the switches so I don't forget which is which...

They seem to work as expected...

For what it's worth, I've DD'ed with a rear auto locker in Alaska for 5 years now. No problems at all and I love it. Hills, corners, highway, doesn't matter. I'd definitely do it again.

I have a Detroit in the rear and when I regear it will be replaced with an ARB to match the front. Detriots are bulletproof which is great. And they are super friendly right up until they arent...like being on a steep off camber section when snow wheeling.

Exactly.autolockers are no fun on a slick surface when the road is tilted towards the canyon. Zig zagging just to proceed can get nerve wracking

My limited slip has almost put me in the ditch several times over the last couple winters

Well, I don’t drive fast around here in the wintry mix, but you know I have a front auto locker and rear selectable. I just run in 4H and no rear locker and take it easy.

Well, pulled the trigger on a 30 spline eaton e-locker for the rear and ordered axles from revolution. Also bought a lunchbox for the front. When I get back from my long ass work trip (~5-6 weeks) I'm gonna have a fun weekend getting all this in plus the new 4.56s. For the switch I'm pulling out a rocker switch I no longer need that I have in the center console which I swapped to the 4 switch no ashtray style. Eaton switch should drop in the hole, if not I'll modify as needed.
