For some types of work push notifications are the only way you get jobs. I used to be a mobile notary for financial organizations and I'd receive solicitations that went out to a large number of other mobile notaries. If I didn't reply nearly immediately I would have never gotten any jobs. Waiting the usual amount of time for non-push emails would have meant no jobs whatsoever.

Thank Goddess you're "out". I can - at long last - ignore that little voice that keeps repeating, "Keep up, keep up, keep up, keep up...". I no longer know the exact up-to-date video card and processor needed for a high performance Solidworks system, nor do I care. Etc, etc.

We operate in a similar fashion. Some clients offer jobs directly to a few select contractors like myself, some offer jobs up for bid to everyone in their system, so we have to react before the other guy. That's the one and only notification I'll pay any attention. Missed calls/txt/email, I'll respond when I feel like it.
Funny you mention this, last week my phone battery pooped out late afternoon (forgot to charge) and felt angry that I didn’t have my phone while it was in the other room charging … then I asked myself “why?” … I had no answer.
I been off social media since about 2016-ish …
And when my wife and friends on a group chat go nuts back and fourth texting, I also get annoyed if I am too busy hearing a constant ding …
Add to which this forum takes a lot of my time these days, i my have to go back to the the ol flip phone …

And I'd have to deal with the stupid thing - and its outrageous cost. Its cheaper to just turn off voice mail.
I have a group of close friends (6 couples) that I’m on a group email with. I dread when someone starts to message because it sometimes goes on for hours. It’ like a bunch of teenage girls. I just put my phone on silence until it stops

Here's a perfect example of what people are like today with their phones. My partner is a teacher, as she was driving in to the carpark at school, this kid just walks out in front of the car, not even looking. Then when he finally notices, does he apologise, no.

I don't have ALL notifications turned off. Though I did recently turn of most, including Facebook.
Other than Jeep stuff, I have been a casino chip collector for about 20 years. I buy sets of chips that I can play Poker with, so we're talking around $300 - $1000+ for a set. I had been making too many impulse buys that I would regret before even receiving them. So I also had to unsubscribe from the Poker chip classifieds. This has freed up more money for Jeep parts and Poker games.
My wife has to take away phones from the kids sometimes at family gatherings and such.
That's one thing I like about wheeling. Many areas are out of cell phone range. I'm usually a little disappointed when I hear the notification go off.
