Jeep prices are really low now. Fix it if you have a few thousand extra bucks to do it right. If you don't want to fix it, rust treat the next one BEFORE it ends up that bad. If you don't need a Rubicon, LJ prices in my area are pretty low. I could've gotten you a rust free one with 100,000 miles for $12,000.

It looks repairable but a lot of work. Being an LJR, It's worth doing if you have the time/skill/money.

I have the skill and money but no time. So that means more money.

And maybe even more money than brains. Non Jeep people be like, “it would be stupid to spend any money fixing it.”

Life is about decisions that are in YOUR best interests and nobody else's opinions matter. I've sold 18 of my Jeeps because I needed money at the time. My life is only getting worse and is not under my control. DO what makes you happy. SHIT happens and life is short for most. ENJOY IT!

amen to that!

Here's how my logic works:
  1. I need a car
  2. I have two cars - both are "classic" that I will get to "someday" (including the rubi)
  3. Don't want to buy a new car because new car prices are freaking redonkulus. Making my stomach turn just now thinking about having a car payment. Bleh. Car payments do not make me happy. I'm happy that many people are not car payment averse like I am.
  4. That means a used car - and used care mysteries. I've had good and bad luck with used cars.
  5. For the price of a used car, I can get the work done on the Jeep - a vehicle which I know inside and out, all of its warts and faults and benefits. And the thought of that makes me happy :)

That is my exact logic as well. My LJ is not a daily and is actually the lowest mile vehicle I own (other than a 1977 project car). Our two daily's are not expensive, can be a pain, but I know their problems and replacing with a nicer used vehicle would make me nervous.

You have a TJ that you know the history of and it’s overall condition. If you by a new to you used vehicle it will have unknown history. Did they sell it because it had issues. Any thing in your neck of the woods will have rust issues. Overall it looks good for an 18yr old vehicle from the rust belt.

That’s what I’m saying! I spent some time poking at my TJ’s body and frame yesterday too after wondering what to do about some rust. It didn’t take long for me to come to the same conclusion that my Jeep that I know and have worked on is the best bet to continue investing in. It’s at least “the devil I know” … but realistically @Queticon I’d say our jeeps are well worth keeping!
