Hello Everyone,
I am in the middle of my 2.5 to 5.2 swap, 44RE trans and 231 Transfer case. The posts in the Forum have been instrumental in helping with the swap. I do have a question. I am using a 1998 GC as my donor and I was going to have the SKIM removed from the GC ECM and use that. What I was looking for is, does anyone have a listing of what pin outs and blending I need to do wiring harness. I am sure tis has been done before so I thought I would ask for some help rather than reinventing the wheel.

Thanks Mike

You can use the GC harness but you'll have a LOT more wires to remove than you would if you picked up a Dodge Ram harness. And NO you can not use the GC PCM. It will not work. It is more than just the SKIM. There is the BCM also that causes issues. And for what you'd pay to have the SKIM removed you can pick up a PCM off Ebay or from a junk yard.

There isn't any actual writeup on blending the two harnesses together. I compiled some cheat sheets from a bunch of different threads on the subject. You will just have to get the FSM's for your TJ & the GC and use them. If you choose to get a Ram harness then you'd need the FSM for it also. And it needs to be from the year of manufacturer as there are some small differences in wiring & pin locations on the plugs at the PCM.

What is the build date on your TJ? Early build TJ's have some differences in wiring from what is in the FSM. Seems to affect 01/96-04/96 builds. Of course I happen to have a 01/96 TJ.....

I had the 5.2 & 44RE in my TJ from my first build but have been redoing it and now have a 5.9 with a stroker kit making it a 6.7 & a 46RE.

If you decide to get a PCM from a Ram at a junk yard look for one with the least amount of options. Also it needs to be from a 1998-2001 Ram. The 1997 Ram PCM's will allow the engine to run but your gauges will not work.

I got the ECU from the 98 Dodge RAM and now I am working on blending my harnesses. I was planning on using the 98 GC harness as the base and repinn or splice in the needed ones from the 97 TJ since it looks like I would be changing the majority of the plugs going the other way, unless you would advise other wise. I am able to follow most but this one plug has me stumped. can you give me any insight on this particular plug?

Is that plug on your truck harness or the Jeep harness? It looks like it's the plug for the fuel tank wires but not 100% sure from that picture.

that plug on my jeep had a lot of empty spots on it. That is the body side of the wire harness C103. I used both the TJ jeep side body plugs C103 and the C104 . On the GC harness I de-pined plug C132 and and added the engine side TJ/C103 there. I took the GC engine harness plug C132 and connected it to the TJ plug C104. this was just a base I decided to go with as it made the most since when studying the diagrams.

I added a lot of wires to each of the plugs but I also went from a manual trans to an automatics so those eight wires I had to wire into the TJ body side of the harness. I completed it myself with lots of hours in the wire diagrams. Take your time it can be done. you will get a lot of thoughts to just pay someone to do it but I finished mine and save 1200 bucks. Just stay focused.

I had to splice more than I wanted, but I have no electrical issues. just make sure you use good connectors that have the heat shrinkable plastic. There are people who have bought the proper pins and crimpers for each pin but I just didn't want to do that for my build. Looking at my engine bay it looks factory as everything is hidden under wire loom as I did it the best but cheapest way I could.
