Any ideas on how this underhood round rubber bumper is affixed to the underside of the hood ? I am reluctant to remove the existing one to inspect not knowing what is behind and if the nut/attachment falls inside the cavity.

Photos and links of what I am trying to achieve are below:

Replacement round rubber bumper is like this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075G1K2L5/?tag=wranglerorg-20

Photos of installed and missing are attached:

Just a rubber tit that pushes into the hole. It’s a bit bigger than the hole so you push real hard to compress it, then it expands back out to hold it in place. Here’s a similar rubber bumper but maybe not you exact size
Large Rubber Push-in Ridged Stem Bumpers 1" Diam - Feet - Fits 1/2" Hole (4) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G8M3B5V/?tag=wranglerorg-20

No. There are two elements. Expanding nut that goes in and bump part mounted to it.
You can get it here

or at Lowe's or ACE hardware for $1.
Make sure you get thread matching bolt ,3/4" length

Parts list shows the insert, bumper and screw.

J4005237 NUT, Hex, .19-32x430, Well Type
55176291 BUMPER, Steel Insert
06034205 SCREW, Pan Head, .19-32x.625

.19"-32 is a #10-32 thread. I don't know if the well nut (nutsert) is rubber lined as linked above or just a simple steel/aluminium nutsert. Diameter of the hole would need to be checked against nusert diameter for confirmation.

One of the well nuts on mine spins. When the day comes that I dig it out of the hood, I will replace the rubber well nut with a metal nutsert.

I just did that yesterday.Ace hardware rubber expanding nutsert is 10-32 thread.Lowe's is 10-24 thread.OD 1/4" or so. 3/4" bolts is required length. Metal nutsert is probably not the best choice on a hood that will vibrate and shake.I assume that 's why they used what they used.
