Testing column multi function switch (MFS) via continuity

in the chart shown in attached image..... it says for exterior lighting "head lights" both low and high ... for testing, you should check continuity between two different sets of pins. My question is why the two sets? asking cause if one set works..... and one set does not..... what does that mean? as in might one of the sets of pins be to for evaluating the path way thru the MFS for driver side head lights one one for passenger side maybe?

asking before I pull this switch out for the hundredth time to do these test on this brand new MFS. (folk have reported buying switches that arrive not working)

Seems strange but maybe i'm missing something. Based on the diagram below I don't see how you could ever have continuity between B16 & B19.

Edit - This diagram is from a 2005 - maybe the 97 switch is different.

Yeah 97 is different 2000? they changed

well here is another one showing numbers that would seem to be usable for testing. understanding the stalk switch of dim/high beam seems to match ..

Id like to find an actual diagram like you have for 2000 2006
