Is it safe to run a battery tender through the DC power port?

At the time that I had started planning for this project (early 2020's), the SSV was one of the only options available - certainly the primary contender. I was largely flying blind since no one had installed one of these in their Jeep yet (as far as I could tell). I spent some time on the phone...

Is it safe to run a battery tender through the DC power port?

Check it out! I did a mini write-up on Reddit. I've been meaning to do a more in-depth how-to on this forum. Let me know if you have any questions.

Is it safe to run a battery tender through the DC power port?

C'mon man...I don't need more projects right now.

Is it safe to run a battery tender through the DC power port?

Terrible picture, but you get the idea. No extension cord needed. I have it mounted with 3M adhesive tape to the bottom of my garage door opener. Plenty of length in the factory cord to reach the Jeep.

Is it safe to run a battery tender through the DC power port?

100% man! I read your advice in the spirit in which it was delivered. Part of the reason I downsized to a 2A. It was always there in the back of my mind. Appreciate the advice!

Is it safe to run a battery tender through the DC power port?

I understand your train of thought, but the 12V power port is a direct connection to the battery. No difference in risk if I were to hardwire the charger directly to the battery. I downsized to a 2A NOCO smart charger to give me some more headspace on the 20a circuit (not that it needed it)...

Is it safe to run a battery tender through the DC power port?

Merry Christmas everyone! I was gifted a 5a Battery Tender. My original plan was to hardwire it, but then I remembered my 2003 came with an "always hot" DC power port in the cab from the factory. I believe our power ports use a 20a blade fuse. I figure it's safe to run a 5a battery tender...

AGM vs. flooded lead acid batteries

Out with the old; in with the new. The Marine terminals are very convenient. Big upgrade. After seeing some of y'all's battery compartments, it's making me really want to clean these wires up. Sidebar: I put a rag and socket over the terminal clamp and lightly tapped with a hammer to seat them...

AGM vs. flooded lead acid batteries

I understand the range of voltage our alternators kick out from the factory (13.7v - 14.7v) is borderline sufficient for an AGM battery, and it varies based on the charge demand from the battery. AGM's require around 14.3v as I understand it. Our factory systems may not get an AGM battery to...

AGM vs. flooded lead acid batteries

This was the exact one I was looking at because of another post you made. Appreciate you dropping it here again. Just placed my order. Sidebar, do you know if the extra studs on the marine battery are safe to run the winch off of? It looks like the terminals are all one molded unit, so it...

AGM vs. flooded lead acid batteries

I possibly just got unlucky then... I'll replace it with another AGM, but I'll go a bit cheaper this time. If the heat in AZ only gets me 4-5 years out of an AGM, no point in spending $300+ when I can spend half of that for the same life expectancy lol. My TJ is also a weekend toy now. It gets...

AGM vs. flooded lead acid batteries

For those that run AGM batteries, are you also using a battery tender? That's suppose to prolong the life. As I understand it, a vehicle designed for flooded batteries might not always deliver enough voltage to charge an AGM fully. They would benefit from a tender in that circumstance.

AGM vs. flooded lead acid batteries

Hey Chris - I'm in AZ. I'm running a Premium AGM from O'reilly. It flat lined without any warning after my last drive. There was zero power to it this morning. It's roughly 4 years old.

Body lift pucks: poly or aluminum?

I swapped my JKS pucks out for a set of these. The JKS served me for many years, but they did compress which was my main reason for swapping. Delrin is a great material for a BL, and the price was right compared to the Aluminum Savvy equivalent.

    Let's see your wheels!

More Nomad pictures...I did a two step paint correction this weekend with a ceramic coating. It's never been this clean and never will be again...so I decided to memorialize the occasion with a photoshoot.
