My 4wd Slash will hit close to 70 mph with a 3 cell LiPo, granted it's been regeared with a higher tooth count 8th scale pinion than what Traxxas sells. Out of the box it would do 60ish with the 3 cell.

An expert in metallurgy by no mean so, take this for what it's worth. If you go the route of clearancing the skid support, as long as you don't get wild and only clearance it just enough that the yoke isn't hitting it, the integrity isn't going to be reduced much if any more than what the damage...
