Early 97 TJ check gauge light (but went away) - hard to start and voltage at 12V

Old thread, but I missed your comment (and still haven't fixed the jeep). Assuming the charging issue is the PCM, and the mechanic felt that was where to look, How do I tell the difference as to if this PCM or the crank position sensor is the issue. What is the test procedure for both?

Early 97 TJ check gauge light (but went away) - hard to start and voltage at 12V

tech said no spark now, when this started, initially no spark, but then after cranking for 20ish seconds, it would start firing then crank

Early 97 TJ check gauge light (but went away) - hard to start and voltage at 12V

Yes, starter is engaging and the ODB port scan is coming back with no errors. I forgot to add, he tested the alternator for me, it checked out ok, that was the other reason we came back to the PCM as the issue due to the internal voltage regulator.

Early 97 TJ check gauge light (but went away) - hard to start and voltage at 12V

Only a year with the jeep sitting, while waiting got hit by a hail storm :( Time to get it running again. I cleaned all of the connections, put in a new battery, fully charged, but I cant even get it to start much less check for the charging issue. Had a local mobile mechanic who is a former...

Is A Early 97 Ignition Key Cylinder Different Than Later 97?

That button is the release for the cylinder, though I did try it. I sent a pic to Wolf Security that Mac listed above, he confirmed the 97 lock is different, and is getting the correct part for me and matching my key off a pic of the spare. Very reasonable pricing! He also gave me the option...

Is A Early 97 Ignition Key Cylinder Different Than Later 97?

I never was able to get the key to get back to the release full off or starter position, but I was able to get it to accessory and pull the cylinder. Now, is this a different lock than later TJ? How do I get the key out? And can a new lock be rekeyed to accept the original keys so it can...

Is A Early 97 Ignition Key Cylinder Different Than Later 97?

Based on RockAuito, This looks like one of the things that early 97 MAY be different from later 97 and not carried on to 98. The good news is, if correct, the 95,96,97 XJ's used the same part. Will let you know.

Is A Early 97 Ignition Key Cylinder Different Than Later 97?

I just sent them a note asking if they can get me the right part.

Is A Early 97 Ignition Key Cylinder Different Than Later 97?

Due to my stuck key, I am about to order the Ignition Lock Cylinder for my 97 TJ. The Dorman unit for the 97 is OOS for most places, so I went to check at RockAuto. They indicate my June 96-built TJ may need a different MOPAR unit, but I didn't see that callout on any dedicated Jeep supplier...

    Key stuck

Went out to take the TJ to the shop to try to figure out if I’ve got a problem with the voltage regulator in the PCM or the alternator. It’s been hard to start, and had it almost fire a couple times, but suddenly the key stop turning. Can’t remove the key or turn it. I tried working the...

Early 97 TJ check gauge light (but went away) - hard to start and voltage at 12V

My battery charge has an alternator test, but how does it know if it is the alternator or voltage regulator in the PCM? Due to the the sudden hard starting and the charging issue starting right after the check gauges light flashed on, I want to make sure the PCM is OK before throwing an...

97 TJ has a strange hum every 10 seconds

It’s not charging, battery is good so it’s alternator or computer.

97 TJ has a strange hum every 10 seconds

Our 97 got a check gauge light (off now), difficult to start and not charging. Went out to put the OBD2 reader on it (no codes) and noticed this strange noise every 10 seconds. Any idea what that is? I had the reader on to figure out if I have an alternator problem or the computer.

Can't find the correct blower motor switch for my 97 TJ?

If we can track down a wiring diagram for these early cars, I would be more than willing to rewire to just have high and low if I knew the right wires for each.
